I know car sales people rank right up their with lawyers and IRS agents, but why do car buyers think they have to lie in order to get the best deal? Even Edmunds and other car related sites tell the buyer to play tricks with the sales process in order to get the "best deal" I think it is the general public that needs to remind itself that cheaters never prosper.

I work in the Real Estate industry, and I agree that most buyers are liars. My big grip is that they use my time and resources just to purchase through another Realtor, that just isn't cool. Sales people are not tour guides or public servants (in my case), so having me work with someone all weekend and burning all my gas just to make a deal through someone else is border line unethical. People please don't do this to sales people, we live on commissions, not hourly or salary! By wasting my time and resources on you, I may have missed out on a pay check helping someone else! I really can't answer your question as to why many buyers are liars, but hang in there bro, there are a lot of people who don't BS and are ethical....

are you a salesman?wouldnt you want to get the best deal?talk about the liers, salesmen need to be more honest and quit saying this is the best i can do,and then when a customer gets ready to leave they say wait a minute, let me see if i can get it cheaper.salesmen know what they got in the car, just be straight and.if i want a car im gonna buy it but im gonna get the best deal too.thats with any product.i spent 3 hrs with a salesmen,i had cash money to pay for the car, they kept on hagaling,i got up and walked out the door,he ran out and said im loosing money selling the car for that much.i told him then you dont need to sell it to me then do ya!i got the car for the cash i had, dont waist my time and they wont miss a sell to another customer thats been there for 3hrs talking about a price.

Because buyers know that if they tell the salesman the whole truth, he will use it against the buyer to manipulate and overcharge.

It's not smart in ANY negotiation to give away your position right up front.

dude, I just had a guy beat me to death on a deal using the "the ford store said..." line. I dropped my drawers to try and make the deal work out and what do you think happened? Yeah, you guessed it.....

You are correct. Now days, us salesmen are just trying to ger by. The competition has become so fierce that the 100.00 mini commision is the norm now.
