Used books, unless they are first editions, in good condition, won't take much off your taxes. Donate them to your local Library, or Veterans Center.
Just feel good about them going to do some good, and not about the tax benefits. You will feel all the better for it.
Oh and by the way, not to be picky, but it's write off, not right off.

Try your local library. They are usually willing to accept books in good condition (videos too). What you will need though is a receipt for tax purposes.

Also, I have donated to salvation army and they do give receipts. Mine actually unloads the boxes from my car.

Any good will place or a non profit organization in your community some thrift stores do it to or MS or a cancer society also. Good Luck
