Actually, that is something that should be discussed with the Ophthalmologist you choose to perform the surgery. As a Registered Nurse who worked in an outpatient eye surgery center, I realized that each eye surgery candidate had a different set of circumstances that aided in choosing the correct type and power of the implant. There are different types of lenses made mostly from a material called 'collamer' and have different types of 'haptics' (end peices that help to keep the lens in place inside of the capsular bag of the eye.) Discuss this further with your doctor. If you don't feel comfortable or confident in your surgeon, find one that makes you feel good. Hope this helps.

I had cataract surgey last October 2005 on my left eye. They suggested I get one with a bifocal RX but after reading about it on the internet I decided to have the conventional one put in. Wearing reading glasses is so much better than worrying weather the new technology is going to work or not.

The one with the bifocal is quite a bit more costly.

Take it from me. It is not worth the risk.

I let the Doctor worry about that when I had my cataract surgery--I've never been able to see better in my life.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse. You have to be measured for your new lens, so it has nothing to do with you. They measure your original lense and match them with the new ones. I've had it done. You can stay awake or be put to sleep for the op it only takes 35 minutes.
