i go into the house after 1 hour at the orthodontist's. It's been a long day and im quite sleepy.. would it be considered disrespectful to tell your dad hello in a really low voice and sad tone after coming in?

No its not disrespectful and its not fair of any parent to expect their children (reguardless of their ages) to be cheerfull and happy all the time. EVERYONE has good and bad days and shouldn't have to pretend any differently.

I once had braces..I remember those appointments all too well. The adjustments, after adjustments. The more I went it seem like the painful each visit became.
Just try explaining to your dad about the visit and your long day painful day at the Orthodontist.

Typical man. He's your dad, so just act like you know where he's coming from. But, really. I had braces for about 5 years. I understand why you weren't in the mood to be chipper. But, at the same time, you need to know when to choose your battles. Fake smiles only hurt for a second.

Well maybe not energetic but a little more noticeable. He probably didn't hear or if he did hear you, it sounded rude to him, so to him that would be disrespectful. Just let him acknowledge that you are there. It probably wouldn't take too much longer to speak so that way and then proceed with going to bed. Its just being a little more courteous.

No.that's not being disrespectful. That's just being tired & we are all entitled to be tired once in awhile. If you were being disrespectful to your dad you wouldtotally ignore him. But, even asking the question about being disrespectful shows that you have got a conscience & you should be proud of yourself for that. Not too many people have manners anymore & it is refreshening to see somebody who still has. Just try your ignore your dad .Best of Luck!!

NO, not disrespecful at all. Disrespectful is looking him in the face and not saying a word. The fact that you said it in spite of how you felt that day shows respect. He should learn respect for other people's moods.

Not if you were just tired and said it in a low voice. If you snarled at him or said it in a snappy way, then you wouldn't have to have done that. I would think your dad would know that no one can be bright and perky all the time.

May be he is unreasonable. The positive side is that it pays to say hello and feel energetic. It sort of radiates warmth all around. How much effort is needed to say "Hello" ?

Too bad dad! Everyone has a bad day once in awhile. Later you could go up to him and say, hey sorry about my attitude, but I'm just having a bad day. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
