I believe Americans have made the word 'Family' a dirty word. It is used as a fashionable word, with a cringeing effect, without quite understanding the concept of family.

To a certain extent I agree but please don't group all Americans together in one pot. There are those of use who have a deep and revered understanding of family.

As far as I can see, you have posted an opinion without presenting a real question. To answer the only part with a question mark, I understand what family means to me; I have no way of knowing whether the other part of 'we' does.

I don't think you should assume that YOUR concept of family is THE concept. Families are different. PERIOD. American or not, everyone has a different idea of what family means. You need to get over yourself.

I think that most children today have no earthly idea what Family means. They are not taught to respect their parents or anyone as far as that goes. I think we as parents have let our children down terribly. They will be the ones to suffer..So sad isn't it. Our American children are lost little souls.

we/our lives are linked one way or another, we are related to everyone somewhere down the line (wether you believe in religion/s or evolution). We are one, and one is all.

My 6 year old son once looked at me and said, 'just you and me Dad, we'll family'. And I was all he had at the time plus he has autism. He knows what family is.
