best way to stop sucking fingers is to apply castor oil. it tastes
bitter and no child likes it. It has no side effects of consuming too. Constant reapplication of oil on there fingers will eventually make the stop sucking.

Why would you want to stop him from sucking his fingers. He has figured out a way to comfort himself and you want to take that comfort away? There is no need. He will stop sucking on his fingers when he figures out a better way to comfort himself.
I also do not recommend putting hot sauce or anything like that on his fingers. Children are always rubbing their eyes. Could you imagine if he got hot sauce in his eyes. There would be no comforting him for the longest time and you would feel horrible. Don't do it.
Just leave it alone for now and let him work through it on his own. If he is still sucking his fingers when he is 4, then you can worry. At age 1, I would let it go.

Why does he need to stop? With his new daycare and being separated from you, maybe he just needs the comfort? And, you know, a thumb is better than a stuffed toy or a blankie which can get lost and all hell will break loose then.
You don't have to worry about it until he's five and his adult tooth buds start forming. Until then, just give him a lot of cuddle time, lots of praise and be happy with your lovely little guy. In six months, when he loves and understands his new kindergarten, you may find that the thumb sucking just stops.

Use a product made to taste bad that you put on the child's fingers. Therefore they wont put their hands in their mouth because the taste is bitter. I think the product is called "thumb". Go to any pharmacy and ask for it.

Good luck! My daughter did the same thing until she was about 4. She stopped when she got blisters from it and had to quit; other fingers just didn't cut it, I guess.

Babies suck on thier fingers because they aren't getting enough oral stimulation. Get him a soother, and see if he will suck on that instead. Its no big deal, and he WILL outgrow it before he starts school. Just don't make a big deal about it.

you can bitter liquids such to put on his fingers, the bad taste might put him off
you can also get bitter tasting nail polish to put on his finger nails, I'm pretty sure these aren't toxic (they are designed for peopel who chew their nails)
