It doesn't really have to be a conversation unless the baggage contains contraband. It will unfold itself with a few simple yet very important questions. If you date has more than an interest in you and is careful with himself he will understand the questions and not hesitate with the answers. Remember these questions and their improtance to you might have the same impact to him as he just might have the same questions but not know how to ask. Just ask the questions and it will put you both at ease and the relationship will move along more quickly and unencumbered. Why would you want to put off something as valid and necessary as the information behind these questions. I for one would appreciate the asking as it would show me some very significant things about you and relieve any uncertainty I might have. Deal with the uncomfortableness as it is only for a second. kind of like a shot, after the stick it is over and healing is begun, same way with what lies ahead of you two.

If such answers are critical to you starting a relationship with someone just plain and simple ask them. They shouldn't get offended unless they are guilty of some of the questions you ask.

You can start the conversation by letting them know that certain issues are very important if your going to be in a relationship or are able to start the process of being in a healthy relationship with them that at least the answers will start the process to a honest and truthful one in the future.

If these things are important to you (b/c they are to me) then they should come up in the natural flow of conversation (I normally do it prior to date #1, but that's just me). Most people with kids will tell you right from the start.

Sex is a no-no. Unless that person is sharing you don't need to know. In fact, YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW. As far as STD's that should come up WAAAAAAYYYYYYY down the line (you should be married at this point).

Well eventually it would come out if they have children ,you can't leave it behind .I don't see why you can't ask bout their sexual past( as in partners) but to ask about a disease you might be offending them
