Tyson couldnt even spell Muhammad Ali.
But seriously....he was a devastating puncher and thats about it. If Cus D'amato lived he might very well have been. In Tyson's early fights you saw a boxer with devastating power. After Cus died he respected no one enough who would tell him to work off of a double jab to get inside because of his short stature. He became a head hunter who didnt throw combinations. he went for one big blow and most of the guys he fought were intimidated enough to bow down to his reputation. He won most of his fights in the prefight staredown. Once Buster Douglas took away the invincibility factor, it was just a matter of time before his career went in the toilet. He didnt have the good sense to go back to the basics. Once again Cus D'amato would have had his respect enough to tell him this and he would have listened. He became even worse after the Micheal Spinks fight because the only tie he had left to Cus was fired by Don King(Kevin Rooney). Tyson is not top 3. Tyson is not top 10. Tyson lies between 15-25 because He had 5 good years and then he became a laughing stock

Tyson lost to Buster Douglas, Evander Holyfield twice, Lennox Lewis and a couple of nondescript heavyweights later so no I can't rank him in the top 3 or top 5. My top 5 are 1. Rocky Marciano 2, Joe Louis 3. Gene Tunney 4. Jack Dempsey 5. Muhammad Ali This is based on performance in the ring only.

dguyto1, NO, and that is an emphatic NO, he doesn't even belong in the top ten.

He does not hold a candle to:

Archie Moore

Floyd Patterson

Carlos Palomino

Roy Jones Jr.

Rocky Marciano

Sugar Ray Robinson

Michael Carbajal

Floyd Merriweather

Evander Hollyfield

and the greatest of them all: Muhammed Ali

Send Mike Tyson to the bad fighters home, he relied solely on aggression not style and of course biting ability.

No, he had great power, but was not a highly skilled fighter.

That being said, if Cuss had not died, he may have gone down as one of the best ever.

If he had been rained properly he would not hoave lost to buster Douglas and would have probably beaten Holyfield at that stage of his career!

Instead he will go down as a famous fighter for being fierce in the ring and reckless out of it!

I think he does have a top 3 boxing video game!

Not in the top 3 in my book. Though very good and still one of the best. There are still a few more fighters which I feel are better. Though we will never really know. Of course there is Ali. Others: Marciano and don't just stick with the Heavyweights, Ray Leonard was great too.

Not even in the top 10. Longevity is part of what makes a fighter greater. Tyson's early career was probably as impressive as any fighter in history, but after Buster Douglas knocked him out, he has never been impressive again.

No Way! I can think of 10-12 heavyweights that would have beaten him easily.....Even Evander beat him twice and he was really a true light heavywight....Tyson was a brawler that was in there at a time when there wasn't any good fighters....he was very lucky in that respect.

He has to be... The funny thing is he has been my favorite boxer of this generation and he is my all time second favorite behind muhammad Ali. He was the youngest shortest and most problematic world heavyweight fighter and had the most powerful punches and astonishing fights. He also holds the record i think for the fastest knockout and fight. So he is a hall of famer when it comes to boxing.

He could of been but he blew it. He's definetly one of "THEE" most powerful guys to ever get in the ring, but not in the top 3. Shame though. Don King ruined him .. and made millions in the process.
