for those people who keep bringing up the fact that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) married a 9 year old?

`A’ishah was most pleased with this marriage. She became his best supporter and learned much of Islam from him. She was a great teacher for many women and men of her time. Her parents were very pleased with this marriage. Historically, it is not confirmed that she was 9 years old when she came in the household of the Prophet. There are various reports from age 9 to age 24. Her maturity, knowledge, intelligence, and contributions during the life of the Prophet and afterwards all indicate that she was either an exceptional nine-year-old or must have been older than that. Whatever the case may be about her age, one thing is certain: she was a most compatible spouse of Prophet Muhammad. None of the contemporaries of the Prophet, his friends or foes, are reported to be surprised by this marriage or made objections to it.

The author should read his own Bible and ask himself how fair he is in judging Prophet Muhammad with one standard and his own prophets with another. If he thinks that a Prophet of God should not have a very young wife, then he should also reject Abraham as God’s Prophet. If he cannot accept a 50-year-old Prophet of God having a 9-year-old wife (though I do not agree that she was 9), then he should also not accept an 86-year- old Prophet of God who slept with a young maiden of his own wife without marrying her, as the Bible says (see Genesis 16:1-16). He should then reject all the Prophets who came in the line of Prophet Abraham, including Jesus. He should also reject the whole Bible, Old and New Testament, because they both praise Abraham as a great person.

In many CULTURES/COUNTRIES etc. the parents agreed to marry thier daughter and sometimes the son when born....and marrage was quite common for 8/9 year olds before the 1950's ( esp. before 1900 )when laws were introduced /placed into the social standards act to have a social COMMON groung so that young persons ( and others ) had an oppertunity to come to an age where they could make thier own choices....and mature pysicaly/emotionallt/spiritly.phycologicly etc....and as a guide to 'acceptable social behavior ....and thus 'we' created LAWS which in our time is only used by the those who want to undermine same....or so it seems....

I don'ty know anything about this subject, but your arguments made me want to ask you:

1. do you think it is OK to have sex or marry a very mature and intelligent 9 year old who consents to ths?

2. do you know what is a pedophile? Do you think it is wrong? And if so, do you think that the case of the first question does not fall within this definition?

I have no interest in the matter so I am not going to read the article. I just want to make clear that nowadays it is not all right to have sex with 9 year-olds, under any circumstances, because some stupid or perverse people might find an excuse because of Mohamed and think it is OK

Oh, and you don't believe what you choose? It doesn't matter where you get info from. We must be objective and critical. If a religion has something wrong, we shouldn't accept it. Besides, social circumstances change since the times the religions were formed. Not the dogma, but the interpretation and implication of religious practice must adapt. Who says crimes were not commited in the name of Christianity and by the church? But the same goes for Islam, Jews, etc.

She was actually 6 years old when he married her, and 9 years old when he began having relations with her. Do not attempt to act as though you are not well aware of this. She even gave account of her own age and verified this. You say she was "most pleased".... can a 6 year old possibly comprehend such an extreme situation involving being married off to a man that was older than 50?? You call that a compatible match? I call it mentally disturbed man. No matter how you want to sugar coat this one, its not going to work. It is very, very bad. When you start to brainwash a child at the age of 6 into thinking this horrible abuse is normal and wonderful and she is lucky, it probably would not take long before that child would surrender to that line of thinking (after all, what choice did she actually have?) Naturally in her older years she would have spoken in a favorable manner about it. Could you imagine what would have happened to her had she of spoken anything bad about Mohammed? I would guess she learned very early to agree with anything he wants and hide her tears behind a smile. I find the whole situation heartbreaking.

Why? a pedophile is a physically matured person who gets sexual arousal and satisfaction ONLY from children. So mohamamad wasn't one because he had several wives of varying age. You are saying that he shared the ethical premises of a time and place in history. However, even in his period of history some other societies already condemned this behavior as shameful and denigrating. Through time most societies came to reject and prohibit these practices as a whole BECAUSE THEY ARE WRONG.

It was wrong for biblical patriarchs to keep slaves, even if it was acceptable at the time. And it was wrong for Muhammad to consort with a child, regardless of the applause he received from his contemporaries.

but technically i support 14 as the age of consent but perhaps 13 is a better age cause then your a teen? tell any 13 year old boy he can't have sex means your just jealous and trying to hourd the woman for yourself.

Any man that puts people down for having sex at that age is just denying what he wanted to do at that age.
