The quickest way is to cut out red meats, starches, breads, sugars, alcohal, and sodas.

Eat veggies (salads are good), soups, and drink TONS of water. If you get hungry between a meal, drink water to fill up.

In moderation eat white meats, and fruits (fruits contain natural sugars, and that can put on weight)

Practice portion control. Yes, you'll feel hungry at first, but think of your goal, and soon your stomach will start shrinking and you won't have that feeling anymore.

Eat 5 times a day. A small breakfast. A mid-morning snack, such as an apple. A small lunch. A mid-afternoon snack, such as carrots. A lite dinner. Do not eat any later than 7pm (6pm is better.)

Go exercise for at least an hour a day, incorporating weight training. Weight training builds muscle. Muscle burns fat. You get the idea. It also gives tone and definition.

Good luck!!

According to a report on 20/20 the other night, there is not such thing as a sluggish metabolism. I found that shocking since I always that was why I had a weight problem. I joined Weight Watchers and use the point system. It is great, I have lost 145 lbs. I am 47 and this has totally changed my life. Good luck.

Start walking.

Do it first thing in the morning -- this is by far the best time of day to do aerobic exercise, because your body is in high fat-burning mode at that time.

Take it light and easy at first. Walk as far as you can for 15 minutes. Gradually build up to 20 minutes, then 25, then 30, and so on until you're walking close to (or even more than) one hour.

Also, eat big breakfasts, medium-size lunches, and then have a bunch of very light meals (or, even better, snacks) during the rest of the day. Make sure they're all healthy though -- including the snacks.

Pope John Paul II was very healthy and active even in his old age, until the Parkinson's finally started to really slow him down. He walked and swam a lot, and he ate big breakfasts but much smaller lunches and dinners. He lived to be 84 and were it not for the Parkinson's, probably would have made it to at least 90.

It won't be easy, but walking in the morning will help, as will the old rule "eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a peasant."

Good luck.

have you tried the Atkins diet? You will never get hungry and you will drop the weight FAST. scarily fast. I lost 10 pounds in the first week, and about 3-5 for the next few weeks after that. stay in focus, remember you are you no matter what your weight is. do this for yourself and your health; don't crash when you break the diet. Just take a deep breath and start over. No one is perfect at anything, and a diet is no exception. Good luck :)

I think it just gets harder as we get older. I read something recently from Gabrielle Reece, the retired volleyball star, who's still in fabulous shape. She said that exercise needs to happen every day. It's like a job and to attach emotion to it makes it harder to do consistently. I've been thinking a lot about that quote as I struggle to get my postpartum body back into shape.

The metabolism problems can also improve with exercise. Sadly, I'm learning I can't eat as much as I once did. But I want a healthy life for myself, so I don't negotiate. Good luck!

I would start going to the gym a few times a week. If that isn't your thing...there is always pilates and yoga. Alot of middle aged women get involved in that. I heard it speeds up your metabolism.

After menopause I think all women slow down a bit and gain a few pounds. Its just the way our bodies work. Just eat healthy and get he excercize your body needs...it can only help.

Check with your Doctor, but this worked for me:

Read every label for "Nutrition Facts." Limit TOTAL fat to 10 grams, daily. EXCEPT for Slimfast (6 grams fat per can). The Slimfast will tame your hunger. Even 6 of Slimfast daily = 36 grams of fat plus the 10 from real food.

Exercise by walking.

(I lost 35 pounds doing this and I am 56 years old.) Good luck & GOD bless.
