A lot of women I've dated and had discussions with can't tell the difference between being smart/not-a-doormat & being a b*t*h. They seem to have a problem with being sweet & agreeable, as if that's not a trait that could be good. I would think it could be good for both men and women. Do the women who can't tell the difference have passive-aggressive tendencies that they're overcompensating for?

Women, as a rule, are often taken advantage of when they are "sweet & agreeable". There is a lot of "pressure" in today's society for a woman to be independant and assertive, and I guess some of us girlies just carry it a little too far. When women go out and meet a man, they almost immediately try to project an image of "I don't care if you dig me, I'm my own woman, and I need NO man to complete me" but it often comes across as "I'm a huge b i t c h, run away as fast as you can!" Perhaps YOU should try being "sweet & agreeable" and see if that gets you anywhere. Women (and people in general) respond to sincerity.

The problem here is twofold:

1) Behavior that would be considered perfectly normal in a man is often judged "bitchy" in a woman. There is a double standard.

2) Any typically feminine behavior on a woman's part can be judged as "doormat" - normal, but nonetheless... doormat.

Societal stereotypes make this a black-and-white thing. The upshot: a woman who does not wish to be seen as a doormat has basically no choice but to behave in ways which will be seen as bitchy coming from a woman (but not from a man...).

And of course that can put a cramp in their social life. But then again - some things are more important than being popular...

It's the same in the female social community. Just because I'm in a gifted class other girls think I'm stuck up and bitchy. It's really annyoing because the prejudice doesn't go away until the person gets to know you. Even my very best friend admits to have thought I was stuck up before she said 2 words to me when I moved where I am because I got good grades. Really sucks, doesn't it?
