They aren't weird. They are a normal Christian religion. But there are some "Christians" out there that are threatened by them, because they don't believe exactly what they do. But don't be fooled it is all rumor.

The response to the question "Is Mormonism Christian?" depends on the substance of the question and its context. If the inquiry is more theological and religious than theoretical and academic, then the question and answer are normative and depend upon the presuppositions that underlie the query. However, the question can be examined by asking about the significance and implications of labeling and naming in the world of religion. While much modern Latter-day Saint literature has emphasized elements in common between the LDS Church and other Christian denominations, the frequent use of "Mormon" among the early Saints shows that the unique doctrines and beliefs of the Saints—such as the Book of Mormon, the gathering, and the leadership of the prophet—enabled the Saints to withstand the centrifugal pull of Protestant hegemony and establish their own identity. Likewise, the Saints referred to everyone outside of their religion as "Gentile," a practice that continued into this century. Now, with their identity firmly established, the Saints no longer feel constrained to be segregated from other denominations. At the same time, however, new conservative Christians have adopted the label "Christian" to unite themselves and to exclude outsiders or those who may differ in their doctrinal beliefs. The need to show this divergence has grown with the increased prominence of the Church and its members and with the realization that conservative Christians share with the Saints a common social and political agenda.

They're no weirder than any other religion. All religions believe in God and have a philosophy for man's relationship with God. Mormons are the same in that respect.

What most posters here are talking about - polygamy - hasn't been a part of the LDS church for over a century, but hey, old stereotypes die hard I guess, eh? :-)

From a strict 4th century Christian interpretation of the Bible, the Mormons believe in some utterly fantastic stuff. They believe that God can reveal truth to men. They believe that God's church should be led by a prophet. They believe that God can reveal additional scripture to man through a prophet. Pretty crazy stuff... ;-)

I know a lot about the momons. The foounder was a guy named Joseph Smith. They used to preach that all black people are cursed because they are from the line of cain who killed his brother. This changed when they where taken to court in the 70's for racism.
They believe that God Lives near the Planet Kolob. They also have links with freemasonary but deny it totally. They all have to wear a body vest under their clothes all the time.
They certainly are not Christians. They believe in the trinity, but they also believe in 3 seperate gods. In fact they believe in many gods. Also they believe that they can become gods too and rule a planet like Adam and eve. I could go on, but as you can see they are wierd

I understand that the mormon church has evolved from its stereotype, but most people, including myself, don't really know what mormonism is about anymore. The things you've heard of probably fall under the stereotype, including bigamy and incestual marriages. Many things that are associated with mormons now actually came from the days of Joseph Smith, the founder of the mormon church. He claimed he was a prophet of God and retranslated the Bible. Example: The Bible says, "...if the right hand offends, cut it off." Joseph Smith translated this to meaning that if a member of the mormon church fell from his/her faith, you should kill them before they anger God and lose their place in the afterlife...killing them to save them. His successor, Brigham Young, brought more disgrace on the mormon church by, basically, being a creep. He insisted that women wear very short skirts, in a time when women were very modest and covered everything. He was eventually killed by husbands of two women he tried to assault because they wouldn't obey his command.

the only thing wierd about mormons is the false rumors and exagerated stories people make up about them and their beliefs. sadly it seems that as long as people don't agree with what someone believes in they automaticaly start badmouthing it. S A D isn't it?

They are a very strange people not least because they believe in multiple marriages but a true mormon gives most of their money to the church and doesn't even realise how gullible that is!!

Mormons beleive that Jesus, after dying, came to america to hang out with the native americans. Then this Smith guy talked to God and God told him about it and told him where to find their bible. Then Smith said only he could see the accual Bible and had to translate it using "Seer Stones". There are alot more details but thats an overview.

Weirdest is they all believe they're going to heaven yet their OWN bible says only 1366 will go to heaven. Also they've said the world was going to end in like 10 years, like said that 20 times and then said they "miscalculated".

I wondered that myself, maybe it's because they truly live but what they preach, they walk the streets and go door to door speaking of the God they believe in. Not many people actually live by what they preach. So it does go against the norm for them to be living their beliefs, therefore making them weird?
