Islam is a peaceful religon that does not allow hatred and animosity but instead teaches encourage good and forbid evil. That is what Islam is all about. Some take Islam and make their own rules so it is really the not real Islam, for example, being tough on the wife is not allowed in Islam. Many take the privilege of taking advantage of their wives, which is forbidden! Prophet Muhammad used to be very polite w/ his wives and always helped around the house. So Islam is really a peaceful religion. For more on Islam...go on Islamicity.com

It may be possible that some religious people don't research Islam because they're afraid they'll see the violence within their own religion. Judaism and Christianity are two common religions that are filled with violence. While Christianity softens it with Jesus, the Holy Bible is still a violent religious text.

It's easier to pretend your religion is about peace when you can call someone else's barbaric.

Edit: As pointed out, it is easier to remember the evil than the good. Islam is a great example of this, as people rarely talk about the peaceful adherents. Likewise, it's easier to remember the Christian who beats up a homosexual or bombs an abortion clinic than the Christian who is peaceful.

As a ways as i do know Islam is essentially the most peaceable faith on this planet, and muslims are essentially the most oppressed bunch of the men and women within the complete mankind. thats the reality. So you inform me who's the Agressor XD Most of the wars fought through Muslims had been in defence, and the ones that have been in offence ended up with victory and minor bloodshed, learn the History and you'll realize that ;)

Tabari IX:69 “Killing disbelievers is a small matter to us.”

Qur’an 2:191 “And kill them wherever you find and catch them. Drive them out from where they have turned you out; for Al-Fitnah (polytheism, disbelief, oppression) is worse than slaughter.”

Qur’an 33:60 “Truly, if the Hypocrites stir up sedition, if the agitators in the City do not desist, We shall urge you to go against them and set you over them. Then they will not be able to stay as your neighbors for any length of time. They shall have a curse on them. Whenever they are found, they shall be seized and slain without mercy—a fierce slaughter—murdered, a horrible murdering.”

Qur’an 2:61 “Humiliation and wretchedness were stamped on the Jews and they were visited with Allah’s wrath.”

Ishaq:240 “The Jews are a nation of liars.... The Jews are a treacherous, lying, and evil people.”

Qur’an 5:51 “Believers, take not Jews and Christians for your friends. They are but friends and protectors to each other.”

Qur’an 5:17 “Verily they are disbelievers and infidels who say, ‘The Messiah, son of Mary, is God.’

Qur’an 9:5 “When the sacred forbidden months for fighting are past, fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, torture them, and lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war.”

Is there any real reason to believe that Islam is a truthful religion? Where did Mohammed study and what school did he go to? Did he heal the sick and bless the poor like Jesus? If anybody smote him did he turn the other cheek? Did he quote the scriptures and critisize rich and religious hypocrites. Did he offer to die for sinners? Did he offer forgiveness of sins?

Because people see images on TV, on the Internet, and in the paper of people killing others in the name of Islam and terrorists claiming to do what they're doing in the name of Islam so people just assume that Islam is a violent faith.

Personally, I don't have enough time to just independently study Islam while i am doing full-time school and full-time work. I also do not judge the religion because of my ignorance of it. I don't go spewing that it is a religion of hate or anything like that. I DO judge the people that use it as a shield for their terrorist acts though.

Perhaps for the same reason other religions/cultures don't research us Americans...we tend to believe whatever the news media feeds us, make judgments, and go from there. The U.S. has a bad rap about many issues (decadent, egotistical, war mongers, etc), but not all of us are like that, either.

I will be honest and say, personally, I am american and I do not like change... other cultures, and their ways do interest me... although I don't completely understand, and haven't exactly been able to have the time to research it... all you can do sweetie is try to explain it the best way you can... people will accept things eventually... some may not, and unfortunately that is just something that you will have to accept by being in a different country... I've been to France before... and they HATED me... and refused to speak English even though they did know how... just something you have to accept... :-(

The same can be said about any religion. People tend to believe what they hear on the streets or in the news or what their parents have taught them. There are extremists in every religion that make the rest of them look bad. What kind of Christian (Roman Catholic) would I be if I bashed others religious beliefs? We are not taiught to hate. We are taught to "love thy neighbor". Peace and good will to you!

Terrorists who kill in the name of Islam and Allah have brought so much hatred towards Islam, that people are just blind with hate. They can't tell the difference between a terrorist and a true believer.
