People are telling me that Hyundai's coming up in the world and I wanted to know if they are actually good and reliable cars and not something that is going to break down after 2 or 3 years.

From what I've heard, they are better than the average American car (Chevy, Ford, etc.), but someone told me that they have bad transmissions, and this is not a cheap repair.

My suggestion: If you can't afford a new one, buy a certified used Honda from a reliable dealer. They are very reliable and easy to repair. (Things aren't buried under the engine like American cars.) My friend has a 1995 Civic with almost 200,000 miles on it, and all it ever needed (besides the standard breaks, oil changes, tires, etc.) was a timing belt. He treated the car like crap, and it still held up incredibly well.

I've also heard that Toyotas are very reliable, but I have no personal experience. Check the Consumer Reports annual car publication. That will show you which car companies keep high standards year after year.

A Hyundai or some other car may be cheaper up front, but, in the long run, Hondas are the bargain.

I own a 2002 Accent and it's extremely fun and reliable. Few problems after 60,000 miles, and the ones I did have were fixed quickly under warranty. It's been a great car for the money. I have only two criticisms: the Hyundai rides low (on very small tires) and it comes without anti-lock brakes.

I have an '04 Tiburon GT V6 and like the car very much. It is fun to drive and gets pretty good mileage (~30 mpg freeway) The only time it has bee to the dealer is to get an alignment issue fixed that was caused by a pot hole. A friend of mine just bought a Sonata and likes it very much as well. I agree Hyundai is up and coming.

I have a 2004 elentra love it get fairly good gas mileage 24-25 in town and 33-37 hi-way and that's going 75-85 mph. Only have had 1 fix got new and that was a window binding. They are known for less defects then most new cars think in top 5. Price wise cheaper get more, warranty is real good 60,000 plus 100,000 (If you get a new one) Get used then you only get the remainder of the 60,000 if previous owner has kept up with service checks. No you don't have to use the dealer for the checks Just save your receipts

I've worked with many kinds of vehicles, and I will honestly tell you that Hyundais have redeemed themselves. They have a stigma to overcome, but they are now worthy cars and will soon be regarded on the same level of Honda and Toyota. I'll tell you straight up that when the 2007 Santa Fe comes out, I will be waiting in line.

Hyundai is the new Toyota. Very reliable and quality has improved greatly over the last several years. Excellent warranties as well.

I had a '92 Hyundai Scoupe and it was the best car ever! I couldn't kill, I wrecked it 3 times, took it off road and it just kept on going. The only things I had to replace in it were the alternator and distributer cap -- nothing major until the clutch went out near 200,000 miles. I sold it when the clutch went out and the person who bought it replaced it and it's still going.

We currently own 2 Hyundais, had a 3rd but sold it and intend to by another in 07. We love them. The warranty is excellent! And, we have had no problems with our vehicles. Good luck!
