You might want to try this website -- it's a free online website by a pilot to help you overcome your fear of flying.

If you can board early, speak to an attendent about this. If there is enough time before take off, I'd bet that you will be able to see the pilot. He may even allow you into the cockpit. He'll sssure you and show you all the neat hi tech gadgets they have to assure your safety
Nothing you could say will sound "stupid".
Remember this quote from Abe Lincoln.
Everybody is ignorant...............About different things.
Ignorant is not stupid, it means just that one does not know about something.. Asking questions is the only way to learn anything.

Tell the Stewart or stewardess the message, and they will tell the pilot when they feel it is appropriate. Myself, I'm a chef, and if a customer came to the kitchen rather than tell their waiter or waitress, I'd have them kicked out of the restaurant.

These days it may not be so easy to talk to the pilot, but talk to the stewardess. She may be able to address your concerns and offer some tips to help you relax.
