Cooking with coca-cola actually is quite popular. Put a roast in a slo-cooker with your favorite seasonings and about 2 hours before its done pour a Coke on it. It will be so tender it just falls apart and you can mix with BBQ sauce and eat on a bun.

It pretty much is a massive tenderizer.

Actually no. Paula Dean has been cooking (and demonstrating) baking a ham in coke for years... The acids in the soda works as a tenderizer and the sugars make a typical sweet glaze finish.

It's just another weird southern-states style cookery combo that mysteriously works; like chocolate mayo cake and baked ham with red-eye (coffee) gravy.

Open the mind and give something different a try - you never know till you do.

Because of the sugar content in coca-cola the gammon would have a nice glazed out crust, because the sugar will caramalise which in my opinion would be similar to honey roast and is very very tasty...and also the coke flavour would make an awesome gravy.....so no its not yuk.....far from it..

yeah...Nigella Lawson does it - it's only the same as putting brown sugar on the rind of a bacon joint
