Wow. The vetrinary assitant is a moron.

Ahem.

No,it's not alright to give them milk. SOME cats can handle goats milk, but no cat I've ever known can handle cow milk.

I have always had cats. I have always given them milk, sometime warm sometime cold. At present I also feed all the strays in my neighborhood. I have given them all the chance to drink milk. I find that some like it and some don't. My cat could care less about milk. Most don't seem interested so I have quit putting it out. I've never had a cat to suffer because of milk. However, I noticed at the cat food section the other day there was cats milk available. Might try that. One thing I have noticed with my cats and all others, they all want water and seem to always drink it. If your undecided about milk, be sure to give them water.

Actually, most adult cats are lactose intolerant, which means they can't digest the sugars in the milk. Most cats love the taste of milk but it generally isn't good for them. If your cat is not lactose intolerant, then milk is an ok treat for cats (it's like junk food for them) and a better subsitute is cream (less lactose) or milk substitute such as Catsip which is formulated for a cat's digestive system.

Milk can be given to female cats in moderation, however milk tends to cause problems with the male's urinary tract and therefore it isn't advisable to give milk to male cats.

Once a kitten is over a certain age, most of them will become lactose intolerant. It can cause gastric upset if you give it to them.

If you ask a vet they will probably tell you no. There are other treats a kitten will enjoy just as much.
