The bible gives a definition, but since you asked for a personal definition I will give you that . Sin to me is something that you consider wrong and you go ahead and do it anyway....

SIN: We are ALL sinners! ALL means everyone through out the world. Sin is what we do that isn't pleasing to God. These are a few examples of SIN:[ GAMBLING, CHEATING STEALING, ADULTERY,TAKING YOUR OWN LIFE{suocide} MURDERING SOME ONE ELSE, LYING ECT]. Those were just some examples of sin. Every one isn't perfect in this world except for one and that is God, and he forgives all things.

Sin is a rejection of God. In order for it to be a sin you must have full knowledge of what you are doing (i.e. know it is wrong), yet one still does it defying God because they think they are smarted than Him. The comforting thing is that we all are sinners and God came to save us from that sin.

Sin is lawlessness. (1John3:4)
This is a great question, because how can you know your need for a Savior, accept by knowing the depth of your sin?
You can know your sin by looking at the 10 Commandments.
Ever lied?
Ever stolen anything?
Ever used God's name in vain?
Ect...
The 10 commandments are like a trainer, leading men to Christ that they may be justified through faith in his blood. If we die in our sins (lawlessness) and God judges us by the 10 commandments, would we be innocent or guilty? Should He send us to heaven or hell? For a full presentation of how to have assurance that you will go to heaven when you die, go to http://myspace.com/forrey and click on the slide show presentation. I hope I see you in heaven one day.

The choice to do something "wrong" that contradicts God's intention for whatever you are abusing. You must also realize that what you are doing is wrong, and choose to sin out of free will.

Don't be a sinner ... be a pinner, get a voodoo doll of Joseph's son and anytime a Christian talks about sin just stick another pin in Jesus for them.
