Sounds like you're really worried about him, and it sounds like he probably doesn't want you to think of him as helpless. If he's probably a very proud person, just showing up may really agitate him. But I'm sure that once you're over there babying him, he'll lighten up. As long as you make it very clear to him that even though he may feel self-conscience about his current condition, it doesn't change how you see him and how you feel about him.
Just keep in mind, broken jaw = little to no chewing or moving the jaw at all. Cracked rib = constant pain, just breathing will agitate it. Turning over to his side, or even trying to sit up can be torture.
So even if you do manage to get him past his pride, he'll still be in a pretty bad mood from the pain alone.
If you think going over would make things worse, then getting him a card would be thoughtful. If he's not the flowers type of guy then get him something pass the time, a book or magazine he'll like. a new video game or something, whatever, you know him better than we do.

You should respect his wishes and not see him. Flowers and a card are a great idea. Just include in the card a note letting him know that if there is anything you can do that you'll be there for him.

depends on your relationship, if you are serious about each other. he is just afraid that you will bolt if you see him less than perfect. Go see him anyway.
If you are not so serious, bow to his wishes. Send a card or flowers (planter or balloons) or send him liquids (broken jaw means no solid food for a while)

card every day or every week, email daily, send some cds you mix yourself, send magazines, funny pictures, you'll think of some other ways to keep him upbeat
