we need better batteries. We already have DC motors that can make a fast efficient car. It is the battery technology that is lacking. The cost of batteries is high and their useful life and storage capacity is limited. This results in a very high price tag for an electric car.

I'm sure that the gas companies are definitely taking advantage of us every chance they can get, but that isnt the reason electric cars aren't very common, so far electric cars are not common due to the low power efficciency they have I'm sure after plugging in your electric car for the night for about a month, as soon as you get your electric bill you might have been better off paying for gas, face it the electricity companies are just as crooked as the gas companies, but current motor and battery technology also limits the capabilty of electric cars, constant stop and go motion is hard on electric motors, and lead-acid batteries are somewhat inefficient, don't worry though new technology is constantly being developed that will help the electric car on it's way, there is great improvement in variable speed electric motors that won't be damaged by stop and go action, and there is plenty of research into supercapacitors to replace convetional electrochemical batteries.
So just be patient practical electrical vehicles should be around before too long all we have to do is put speakers on the car to make engine noises

because at this point the cost and energy required to produce them isnt economical, there very much less powerful, which means nothing on a sunny day, but in poor weather or snow you need that extra oomf and traction to keep you on the road, theyre not as big which means you cant fit as many people in them, and america is full of families with more than 4 members.
Companies are going bankrupt trying to produce hybrids, and full electric cars. Such as Ford. They were on the verge of bankruptcy this year because of their green initiative.
Just because something sounds like a good idea doesnt always mean it can be implemented instantly, or that its practical.
These things take time.
Heating your home, running your computer, pumping and cleaning the water and waste you need and create, the things you buy, all these things require the burning of tons of millions of pounds of fossil fuels. Try laying off those things for a while.

This is not the change you might hope for. Since it requires the burning of fossil fuel for over 75% of the generated electricity in the US, you would only shift where the use takes place. Add to that the fact that there is a limited range the electric cars can travel before you have to have a place to recharge them and the time it takes to recharge them, and you can see they are not for everyone.

Well first, the government taxes gasoline all over the country- if we used electric cars they would be out allot of money- Second- the people who own the oil companies are usually some type of polition- and they don't want to see their profits go down- another reason (my reason) is that electric cars are fairly new and they don't have all the bugs worked out of them- i do not want to invest allot of money into a new product that might not work right. I hope that one day we can all use electric cars- or water powered- wouldn't that be great!

the answer is "partly." The EV is powered by each of the electrical energy on the grid. So, the electric powered vehicle is fossil-nuclear-image voltaic-hydro-wind powered. * There are various the clarification why electric powered automobiles are nevertheless a options cleanser than gas automobiles. * before each little thing, no longer each of the potential on the grid comes from fossil fuels. So immediately away electrical energy is going to be cleanser than burning gas. * Secondly, electric powered automobiles are extra efficient. extra miles pushed on a smaller volume of potential also skill a lot less known pollution. * 0.33, wide quantities of potential are used to refine gas - about 6 KWH of potential for each gallon. this is sufficient potential to pressure an EV 20 to 30 miles all by itself - and it really is earlier the gas has even been used! So, this is as if we are all using electric powered automobiles already - except burning gas at the same time!

Everytime energy is transformed from one form to another, energy is lost. These losses make it less efficient to generate, transport and store the equivalent amount of energy that is stored in gasoline.
In addition, electricity is primarily made (in the US) by burning coal. Coal has historically generated more hazardous emissions per unit of energy than gasoline.
Also, car companies have historically worked in tandem with energy companies (as well as rubber and steel companies) to ensure profitability.
These reasons all contribute to the bigger picture reason: there isn't a big enough public demand for electric cars.

Unfortunately, electric cars and hybrids are still too expensive for most people to be able to afford. Once the prices come down, more people will begin switching over.

Greedy corporations exploit some of our natural resources, and steal most of other countrie's resources by creating a dependecy on oil. Many people have invented alternative ways of energy, which would be eco-friendly and affordable. Of course, the government would not go for something like that and ruin our "prosperous" economy.

I don't want to offend you, but what kind of car do you drive now? And that would be my point. As long as we buy cars that burn gas, we will not have alternative forms of energy. You might also want to check with all the folks who threw fits over nuclear energy twenty years ago and left us begging for oil today. Unfortunately we can blame everyone from from the Arabs to the President but we are our own worst enemy.
