My dog is allergic to the following: Pork, turkey, soy, peanuts, most kinds of rice, dairy products, and tobacco smoke, and every variety of grass, excluding corn and wheat.
It costs a fortune to feed her, and the above items are just them most serious of her 3-page allergy list! When she comes into contact with an allergen, she loses her fur and her skin breaks out in bloody leisions. Her moth bleeds and she gets indigestion really bad. We currently feed her Purina One Sensitive, but is there a brand that doesn't cost as much?

If she is doing ok with Purina One Sensitive keep on that.
With those allergies most of the better food would be much more than what you are paying for the Purina.
It is going to be one of the cheaper ones you will be able to feed.
Some of your better quality dogs foods are more than $2.00 per pound.

My dog has a laundry list of food allergies as well. I go through the same thing with the skin/fur. I feed her Natural Balance. They have a Potato & Duck formula that should fit your dog's needs. Wellness makes a Whitefish & Sweetpotato that would work as well.

Also, beware of treats (I am sure you know this). I pay about $30 every 5 weeks for a 75 pound dog for food and about that much for treats (but my dog is spoiled with treats). I order from www.petextras.com They have an awesome variety of single ingredient treats that are venison or fish based.

Food that you can buy at the grocery or discount store is not going to help your dog.

The first problem you just pointed out, you're feeding it Purina One. If you have a chance, take a look at the ingredients. Chances are, your dog is not allergie to all of those things. Did you get your dog tested for those allergies? Pork is too fatty, you shouldn't be feeding your dog any dairy product they are lactose intolerant. Corn and wheat usually are what dogs are allergic to. Without veterinary food, you can find some really good, it will be more expensive than what you're purchasing because it consists of by-products, corn and chemicals. Puppy? Adult? Sr? My choice is Wellness, real meat, fruits and veggies, no chemicals, no preservatives, no by-product. e-mail me if you want just click on my name.

My dog is also allergic to some foods, particularly chicken, which unfortunately is a main ingredient in a lot of grocery store brand dog foods. It's very difficult when you have an allergic dog to find foods that are inexpensive. I have found through my own experience that buying cheap dog food is more expensive than buying more expensive dog foods. Why? Simple, cheap dog foods use a lot of fillers in them, including corn and rice. Instead I use holistic dog food, below there are some links to some holistic foods.
SolidGold is a good brand, but it does have brown rice, not sure if that's included in the allergy list..
also the natural balance is made for allergies, no rice or corn.

There is also a link for your dog's food, if you look at their discription they say, "Easily digestible ingredients, like rice and oat meal, for your dog's sensitive stomach." Yikes!

Please note, corn and rice are used as fillers because when they are in your dogs stomach they expand which is what makes them so filling, but not neccessarily nutritious, or easy to digest.

Good luck in finding the perfect dog food.

Oh the poor dog! How sad. I hope you can find something that helps her. I agree with unaya_waya. Dogs are allergic to corn. Ours was and we were told if it is listed as one of the top three ingredients in the food then it is used the most. Look for something at a pet store like Petco or PetSmart. Investigate the foods on their web sites before you just go an buy. Or speak with your vet and see what they recommend.

A good one is Natural Balance

Hi, there is a relatively new movement out there for pooches called B.A.R.F. It stands for "Bones and raw food." Highly recommended is one raw chicken per day. This is enough food for most dogs. Chickens are available cheaply from a local poultry distributor by the case. I'm also starting to wonder if there is something in your water that may be bugging him. Folks think water is so benign. Ha! Have your water tested at your local extension service or look online for testing agencies. Its cheap enough, sometimes free and you might find stuff like chlorine, mercury, ecolli (sewage) and other lovelies that pooch may not be too thrilled with. Even city water is suspect. Good Luck. My best to the both of you. Stew

When it comes down to it, Purina KNOWS what they are doing with allergy-ease food. Hence why it costs so much. Keep her on it and try suplimenting her food with corn or bread.
