Okay, I went to eat at a Red Lobster a couple of years ago. I ordered a Shrimp Pasta. Afterwards, I got very sick. Nausea, cramping, and pretty much your ordinary stomach bug symptoms. The next day, I felt fine. Well, I thought I was allergic to the sauce because I had eaten shrimp tons of times, and never became ill. I ate there again, maybe a year ago. I ordered the same dish, and it happened again. I recently went to a restaurant (Not Red Lobster), and I ordered shrimp. I became very sick, and I almost went to the ER. Am I allergic to shrimp? Please help me!

Go visit the allergist and have allergy tests done just to make sure so you don't have to visit the E.R. In the meantime do not order shrimp or any other shellfish until you have seen the doctor.
Excerpt from allergies.about.com
Symptoms
The manifestations of fish and shellfish allergies can include those of a classic food allergy. The more common symptoms include skin, stomach, or respiratory problems. More specifically they can include nasal congestion, hives, itching, swelling, wheezing or shortness of breath, nausea, upset stomach, cramps, heart burn, gas, diarrhea, lightheadedness, or fainting.
Reactions usually appear within 2 hours after ingestion, inhaling cooking vapors, or handling of seafood. However, it has been reported the reactions can be delayed as long as 24 hours.

You are probably allergic to shrimp and possibly all shell fish. My mother ate shellfish all of her life and then one day about six years ago she ate some and went to the E.R. The doctors figured out that she was allergic. They told her that obviously this was an allergy that she grew into and just as easily as she grew into it she could grow out of it. So, once a year for four years she would eat a small amount of shrimp. lobster or crab and she would wait to see what happened. Well, after the four years of being very careful with her shellfish intake she discovered that she was no longer allergic and eats shrimp and lobster as much as she wants. So, for the time being you might think about giving it up and then take it slow untill your body gets back on track.

okay, u said that u had ate shrimp tons of times and never became sick well personally i think that u may not be allergic to the shrimp itself but u may be allergic to the red lobster shrimp because probably u may be allergic to the seasoning, sauce, oil or whatever they use to make the shrimp that is what probably triggers off your allergic reaction.

Usually food allergies cause symptoms such as itching, whelps on the skin, sneezing, eye and nose watering, throat swelling or tightening, difficulty breathing, and bad cases cause respiratory arrest (stop breathing) and seizures.
Sounds like food poisoning to me. FP is usually over with in 12-18 hours. YOu may also have a mental thing about shrimp now, since you got sick the first time.

You may be allergic to shellfish or just shrimp. It could also be your are having a reaction to the mercury in shrimp. Shrimp has alot of mercury in it. Try to eat annother type of shellfish and see what happens. If it happens again dont eat it. It could be the mercury or your just allergic to shrimp. It could be that in your head you really dont like it and it make you sick.

Probably are allergic to shrimp, or maybe you're just allergic to the high prices at Red Lobster.
And..........I FOUND YOU after all, didn't take long. Just typed in "Jodie Foster" and chose "nicknames" and voila, there you are. Kudos.

yes, you may be alergic to something, or the shrimp wasent cooked all the way through. you might be alergic to the shrimp, shrimp coating or the sauce. do a test. eat plain shrimp. if you feel fine a couple of hours later, then the sauce must be the culprit.

Probably. You need to consult a doctor and have them give you the "pokey pokey" test (I don't know the proper name, but that covers it for most docs)!!
You could very well be allergic to seafood or possibly the ingrediants cooked with the seafood. For example, my mom is allergic to wheat...course we thought it was everything else with wheat in it (which is a lot!) until she had the test done. Get my drift?

Yes. PLEASE do not eat it again. Your body's allergic reactions intensify after each encounter with the irritant.
Also, PLEASE go to your doctor to get an EPI pen.
Be careful about other similar foods, such as crab and lobster. I am allergic to shrimp, crab, and lobster. If I eat it, I might not make it to the emergency room.
