My husband was informed that he was to report for an interview in connection with his application for naturalization on 18 July. The interview was to take place in Orlando, Fl. Four days after being informed of the interview appointment, he received another letter stating that the interview has been cancelled. No explanation was given for the cancellation nor was he given any indication if or when an interview will be rescheduled. Is this a normal for interviews to be cancelled without any explanation? What steps can he take in order to obtain more information about his case? He did manage to speak with an NIS agent via telephone but the conversation was very short and curt. Would appreciate guidance at this stage.

If you have recently moved, then his immigration file may still be at your previous immigration office, or in transit to your new one. I used to work at an immigration office, and depending on where the file was coming from, it sometimes took weeks to get the file to the new office. If you haven't moved, then a possible reason for the cancellation is that the scheduling center may have screwed up and scheduled too many interviews for that particular date and time. We had an issue like that once in our office. We had to search through all the files and find out which ones had been scheduled for the same interviewer, date, and time, and then reschedule a few. If you don't hear back in a few weeks, schedule an Infopass appointment online to go in and speak to an Information Officer. Calling the toll free number only makes you frustrated.

In response to the person below me: I don't know if all offices are doing it, or if it was just my old office, but our security guards wouldn't let you in the front door if you didn't have an appointment letter or an Infopass appointment receipt that you had printed out from your computer. To get the infopass appointment, go to www.uscis.gov. They will see you with the infopass appointment.
