I'm not a psychologist, but after reading the answers you've received, feel my answer is better than theirs. I've gone through marriage counseling with three counselors and if you just need someone to correspond with to vent, I'm happy to do so. By the way, that is the best thing about counseling - you have a completely objective third party that doesn't know you, your husband, your family and will never tell anyone. You getting things off your chest is what helps you make a decision because no psychologist will ever tell you that you have to do this or you have to do that - they teach communication skills, listen and empathize.

I'll give free advice
If your way of maintaining your marriage is not working then you obviously need to find a new way. There is a method that has helped literally billions of marriages improve. It has also given both men and women what they need to feel good about themselves. Part of the problem is that most people go into marriage expecting to get something out of it. That's their focus. What is my spouse doing for me. The better approach is for both of you to look for things you can give each other. Don't keep score. One of you may have to give a lot more until the other one gets on the ball. It may sound too simple but the best way to get a better spouse, is to be a better spouse. What have you got to lose.

I am reminded of an American Buddhist scholar, Robert Thurman, quoting an ancient Buddhist master called Bengali. I don't know if it is helpful but perhaps you will find it humorous. "Husband and Wife, each of them will soon be dead; therefore, while living, they should be nice to each other." Best.

Never mind the smart elecs. They just want attention.

Be very careful here. My brother sought free care after he exhausted his insurance coverage. His 'free' counselor used hypnosis for months and allowed him to believe a massive amount of horrific and imagined history for himself that was not true.
