Can one apply for temporary protected status if they have only been here for over 1 year? I am very confused on how that works. I have read so many different things. One said that they must be physically, continuously present in the U.S since Feb 2001. The other says a bunch of stuff about you can apply if you were here before the last designated TPS was granted.

Can anyone clarify this for me, please?

Salvadorians and Nicaraguans are eligible for TPS. I beleive the laws regarding it have changed, you have to call immigration. Be prepared to wait on hold for 30 minutes. I have a list at home stating all the forms you must fill out. the initial form costs 70usd and there are about 4 others that you must send in as well and they are not free.

I have no idea how that works. You may want to try either the INS web site of the State Department web site. I am sure that one of them should have some information
