OK enough conjecture - here's the facts.
There is a commandment not to take god's name in vain. This is understood in 2 prallel ways:
1. don't use god's name in speech in a non-holy (prayer/learning) atmosphere
2. don't write god's name when it will be erased (and don't erase it once it is written).
In order to avoid #2, many people don't write the name completely so what gets erased is not the full name of god. I don't think that the letters g-o-d constitute a name of god so I don't sweat it, usually.

Well his name is YHWH= pronounce Yahweh, Take a look in the front or back of the Bible, most Bible tells you that the name has been replace with god. So this is something you just won't really see the Churches telling you about. That his name isn't this title they gave him.

The Jews are forbiden to. They often use Ha'shem which means The Name in place of G-d
Some who profess to be Christian say thay know the name of G-d.
I am of the Christian Faith and I do not know it. There are many "words" in The Bible which name the atributes of God... But the closest infact to a name being given was when Moses asked him and received in reply "I am that I am".
I accept email questions from honest seekers concerning the Christian Faith. or you may check me out at:

I always figured it was religious. I don't think some sects of certain religions want God's name written. For example, I just read a book about a very devout Jewish boy, and he doesn't write God's name. I don't know if that's primarily Jewish or if he was being overly devout, however.

I believe there are those who think even to utter the name of God is disrespectful to him. Actually the word god is anything that one worships. It is not necessarily the creator himself. To me Jesus is God in the form of humanity. He came to be the propitiation for the whole world.

Besides, "God" is not the name of god. It is used as a substitute for the name of god (YHWY, Jehova, etc.).
I guess some people need a substitute for the substitute.
