I want to throw my 1st 4th of July BBQ at my home. Is there a normal day to do this over the long weekend (Sat., Sun., Mon., Tues.)? Or should it be just on the 4th? There won't be any fireworks, just bbq & drinks (alcohol & non).

Usually the parties are on the 4th of July, and end about dusk so people can go see fireworks elsewhere. Usually it is a picnic and make sure there is shade if it is outside. don't forget chairs or blankets to sit on.

It sounds as though you're planning a get together and not a 4th of July party. The difference is that a 4th of July party most certainly involves fireworks. Also, if you're considering having it over the weekend, that also makes it just a get together. You can have a get together any time you would like. Since you will have alcoholic beverages, check to see if all of your guests will have off on Monday. Some companies aren't giving a freebie holiday. If you have guests that may not have off, your best bet would be to have your get together on Saturday to have the most fun and the most guests. Of course you always want to make sure your guests are drinking responsibly and maybe have one or two designated drivers on stand by. Enjoy your party!! :)

I am throwing my first 4th of July BBQ at my home this year too, I am doing it on the 4th, we have lots of fireworks though. Is there a reason your not having fireworks? You could always tell people to bring their own if they want to. I told my friends they could bring their own but we'd have plenty if they didn't want to. Already had one friend bring their's over so they didn't end up popping them all before the 4th lol - anyway. it's okay to have it whatever day you fee like, but if it's not on the 4th of July, it would be hard to call it a 4th of July party. You'd have to call it something else, maybe a july bash or independance party or something. (IMO)

It depends on the crowd you plan to invite: if it is families, then the 4th in the afternoon is perfect. Think kids' foods, plus bbq stuff, potato salad, a green salad and desserts. Drinks of course, soft and beer.
If it is a young party crowd, I'd pick the saturday...so they have the sunday to sleep in!!! you can pick a later hour, say 6h in the afternoon, especially if you'd like ppl to hang around late. Food can be similar, but you can add more spices!!! you can marinade the meat in rubs or marinades with tabasco or with chili, plan to have enough beer (an extra case will not go bad in case it doesn't get drunk!), buy enough ice (or fill a bucket with ice), prepare pitchers of margaritas or other drinks to pour on ice - presto, an open bar with no effort!!!
buy some pretty red white and blue napkins and platters, add some stars around - and have fun!!!

Oh, yeah - don't let ppl leave your house drunk and driving. It is not a good friendly thing and... you may be liable if something happens.

The wonderful thing about having the Fourth of July this year fall on Tuesday; is that many people will have four entire days off. Thus what ever day you choose will be great. Happy Fourth!

I would say Sat., Sun., Or Tuesday would be good. But check who is off when. Because many people are working on Mon. or get off early Mon. Just be aware of everyone else's schedules.

i kind of love the 4 july even though I AM canadian. and dislike some americans cause they refuse to see that they really are one nation under god. which means god is in canada.

and to put a good word in for the queen its said the KING is GOD. And EMPEROR is GOD thus both words seem to describe the wrist shown if you beleive M=IVI stitched together.

so celebrate 4 of july with TODD in mind. cause GOTTI is kind of good with GOTT. And gott is god in german.

i think if you made it on a weekend where everyone could come, would be better. (even though it is July 4, it would be alot easier cause most partys or related events are on weekends)
