That's a common trick of abusers. Not all abuse is physical. If your friend is old enough to leave the situation, she should. If she's under 18, then try to get her to see a school counselor. Don't press her about it if she doesn't want to, but it could really help her out. Having a parent treat you that way can really distort your sense of self-esteem, and talking about it with someone who's trained to recognize these things can help her sort out the reality from the b.s. I hope that works out for her!

Her mother may have a mental illness, possible one called "borderline personality disorder". It would take a professional to decide for sure, but your friend should get some help. I hope your friend will find a counselor, psychologist, or someone to help find ways to deal with mum's illness.

your friend mother treats your friend badly?
well try not to take this the wrong way but a lot of kids think they are "abused" just because their mother asks them to take the bins out.
now I'm not saying your friend is like that but before you start getting involved I think you just need to realise that sometimes familys fight and bicker, its not always serious, her mother just might be stressed and your friend might be pushing the wrong buttons (teens are good at that)
your friend can always try phoning somewhere like child line if she thinks she needs to talk to someone

How do you know she does not do drugs?
Maybe shes doing them behind her back, you know mum's! they don't want to set a bad example. Just like she snoops on your friend your friend should snoop too.

Her mother sounds like Margaret White. If your friends name is Carrie White then she could simply set her on fire with a damnable glare of the eye.

Of course everyone wants to blame it on bipolar. Which people simplify to just mood swings. Shame on you people. Sounds like a classic case of abuse to me.

It sounds like your friends mom needs counseling. Have your friend recommend a good family counselor.

bipolar. when's she mad and treats you like crap, smack that bi*tch around. When she's on the floor crying, then be nice to her and give her a helping hand.
