Electricity wasn't invented, it was discovered. The greatest invention is without a doubt the transistor, that is the base of many of the things people have mentioned, Internet, IC's, computers, etc etc etc........

With out a doubt fire. With fire, we were able to defend ourselves form the wild, stay, warm, and disinfect (better than nothing) our food. Later in human evolution, we used fire to forge steel, and power journeys across the oceans.
