Satan's purpose has always been to obscure, and falsify the simplicity of the cross in its application to our sin problem.

Actually, the Bible never says he wants our souls, just to tempt and corrupt. There is a difference. The name Satan is derived from Has-Satan (Hebrew) meaning 'Adversary'. In the Bible Satan is nothing more than an advocate for temptation, he does not force nor is he so much evil as he is a tempter. There is a subtlety to his temptations and they do lead to evil, but he himself has not committed any act directly. This is important because it means we humans are the owners of our own evil.

Note that in the book of Job, Satan makes a bet with God and note also that God takes the bet. One must ask why God would allow this. This is not an argument to take away the power of Satans' temptation merely to put in context.

You ask what Satan wants, he wants control, power and avarice. Much the same way humans do, only on a universal scale.

He wants to kill you.

He has absolute and utter contempt for humanity. He was once the highest of created beings--the greatest of the Angelic race. But that was before he deluded himself into thinking that he was more beautiful and more powerful than Father God. He was able to convince a third of the angels that this was correct. But, as we know, he was Oh So Wrong!!! and in a mere moment was hurled from heaven.

But the Bible says that while we are below the angels now, in heaven we will be elevated above them. It says that we were created in God's spiritual image. It does not say that about the Angelic race.

This infuriates Satan and he does everything possible to bring as many humans down as possible. He wants our utter destruction and has been working to that end since Eden.

That is answered in the Bible. He want to be like God.. See Isa 14:12-14
[12] How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
[13] For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
[14] I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

This is the Big Lie Satan tells himself and others.. If anyone come to you and says you can become a God.. Run don't walk away as fast as you can..

The first motive of Satan (Lucifer, Beelzebub, the Devil) listed in the Bible is pride. A pride that caused him to want to "ascend into Heaven" and to "exalt his throne above the stars of God"

I doubt his desires have changed much since then.

Satan doesn't give a crap about you.
He doesn't want you on his side.
He only wants your soul so he can win the war between good and evil.

He wants us.

1 Peter 5:8 - Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

John 10:10 - The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.
