illegals claims about what illegals are doing to this society? I live on a meduim size border city here in Texas. We have a very safe and peaceful community here. Property values are good, there is no job shortages, in fact we need workers. We have a relatively good public school system. We don't have a drug abuse problem. We have one of the safest cities in Texas, our sister city which is 20 miles from here was rated 10th safest city in the country. I am not saying I live in perfect city by any means. But to say it is a bad place to live because of illegals is NOT true. About 10 years ago, abuse was going on with social services and illegals taking advantages of the system. That changed fast, the govt. made it much stricter to get benefits. Honestly, what I see is, they come here and work for cheap labor, yard work, cleaning homes, contruction work, etc. They don't bother anyone here. I can walk in most neighborhoods at night and not worry about my safety. Any comments?

If illegals were causing problems here, the media would be all too happy to report it. All the crime here are commited by locals/US citizens...

I think it is a matter of perception and general upbringing; reading the answers given here, it seems everything is in the eyes of the beholder...it goes from the moderate mainstream view to radical hysteria based on their true life experience. I think it's funny how in the southwest, the local yahoos (don't mean the users here) sound like the most unsophisticated members of society, and they are the critics of "Pepito, learn English." These are the role models for the cyber kids and some adults who answer here, especially in this category. What else can be expected except that they parrot the views of their authority figures. It's a mentality being handed down for generations. It would be like saying all white anglo saxon Americans are born with higher intelligence. And now it's being ruined by the illegal immigration.
I don't discount the obvious crime by the hardcore Mara Salva Trucha gangs from El Salvador and the gangs of LA; but, they are the exception, not the rule. The White Racist Supremist hate groups are the exception, not the rule. I also do not discount that people having come here illegally are breaking the law. I place that blame on our White House Administration. They care two sh*ts less and are the enablers of this crisis. If real estate has always been the thermometer of our economy, just think, the illegals are cheap labor. Their contribution helps to boost our economy so we can have a flourishing economy. It's quite the paradox of our government officials.
Having grown up in Texas, my experience is similar to yours. The cyber immigration group pulls out the social services and tax card; while it is a reality that our system is on overload, I think they are saying two things: don't take it away from me, I live in the land of opportunity, but I don't want to do anything for myself; I am lazy, and my American passport entitles me to benefit from social services, I want some and you are taking it away from me; or they like the way it sounds, since most of the kids answering probably don't have a job and are not really paying taxes.
I have a builder brother in Central Texas building million dollar homes who would never tell you it's a bad place to live because of illegals. He likes their work ethic, and he obviously hires white Americans as well.
The bottom line is prejudice is as prejudice does. I see a lot of businesses owned by these so called immigrants; they come here and add to the tax base and contribute to employment; so, I ask any gringo who opposes to that: what's your story? Quit your whining, leave the Mexican restaurant and do something for yourself!
And that's my pulpit for the day!

Yea, they have moved past your neighborhood and into the northern states.
You say, it is a safe town. But let me ask you, what would happen if an illegal rapes or kills someone close to you? How would justice be served? We can't track them down if we don't know they are even in the country. So, on the outside it seems peaceful, but you can't have undocumented people running rampant in our country.
I bet the terrorists that did 9/11 were nice and peaceful while they lived here too. This means nothing. Just because you say they don't bother anyone doesn't mean that they aren't.
With illegals, comes more jails, schools, and medical facilities. Who will pay for all this. I hope you will step in line and pay my share, since they don't bother you any.
How about unemployment? They work for such petty wages, that sooner or later jobs will be gone because companies will hire them. I bet you are against sweat shops that keep popping up in foreign countries. If you are, then how can you justify the wages that illegals are making here in the U.S.? This is no different then a sweat shop in China paying pennies on the dollar to it's workers. It used to be, when I was a kid, that I could get odd jobs like mowing lawns and in return learn the value of hard work. Now, with illegals taking over, kids have no hope in learning the value of a dollar, because people like you want to hire illegals.
You don't see the drug abuse problem because you don't know about it. What idiot is going to announce they do drugs. It's going on behind closed doors, whether you like to admit it or not.
Eventually, what you can't see, will become visible in all aspects pertaining to illegal immigrants. It just hasn't reached that point yet. That's why people get angry and want change now, before it is too late. It may be too late anyways.
The media reporting is a weak argument. When have you seen the media report on illegals committing crimes anywhere? Does this mean thet they don't commit crimes?
No,
It means it is not getting reported in the media is all.

You are one of the far and few lucky ones if you live on the border and have no problems. Not many can say that, and be honest about it.. I lived close to the border too and it was a night mare... Every day people were getting things stolen even clothes off their clothes line. Shoes off their porches or anything else. I couldn't begin to tell you how many cars were stolen out of peoples drive way, and mainly newer model cars. They tried stealing my motorcycle one night but I had thick chains on it so they couldn't get it. This was a middle class neighborhood too. I couldn't wait to get out of there. I moved over a thousand miles away and in the past few years the illegals have started moving here in this small town. The crime rate has gone up now here because of it. They are always getting into trouble here. Their gangs and drugs are every where, its not safe even during the day. Our jails are full of them. I am sure not all of them are bad, but I know from my experience when they start moving in by the numbers that equals problems.
The legal Hispanic friends I have get very upset with them and are against them coming here unless they have the legal documents.

so it does not bother you that illegals dont need to learn English to live here, just about anything u buy has spanish translation, they dont need to learn it , its been translated already. how sad. u come here, that mean u want to be an American, right? then learn English.
Because of so many illegals we have to pay more taxes for Medical interpreters, and now they are saying(in a resent article in newspaper) that we need more interpreters, mainly spanish. Young children come in to do the interpreting and sometimes interpret wrong, ending fatal to even to the extent of death. So now is the question, do we need interpreters? or do they need to learn Engish which they should have done in the first place.
And another point, you say they dont bother no one, well that u out all the other americans out here. I live in a ok neighborhood and get harrased almost daily, just because im white. They think its fun to whistle at a girl, or yell out profanity. how sad they live, everyday sitting on their porch drinking their life away, and whats worse they get government cash assistance! Thats what makes me sick.
Refugees come thru the agency i work for , first month we help them find a job and they work , they are happy to be doing something rather than sitting home. All of them are required to take Adult Education!

Really if immigration was once major it could now not be buried through each and every baby-kisser, unlawful immigration is anther time period for company welfare, I agree the procedure of immigration will have to were managed 30 years in the past, however why is it that immigration legislation are selectively enforced on this nation?...The fine factor you'll do is vote out the events and set up unbiased politicians. My common sense for that is that the political events are already corrupted and regulated through those lobbyist associations and with Independents in workplace it's more difficult for firms to manage the laws and the politicians might not be equipped to cover as good as they do now

That doesn't mean a thing. That is there and not elsewhere. Besides, what part of ILLEGAL do you not understand? These people are breaking the law to be here. Then break additional laws (fake IDs, SS numbers, etc) to stay here. If someone broke into your house you'd call the cops. Well this is the SAME thing. They have broken into our house (the US) and are stealing from us. They have no right to be here and no way to legally justify their actions. If they want to be here then they are no better than anyone else and have to do it through the legal means. But since they don't want to do that, this clearly demonstrates their criminal intentions, and as such they have no place here. If they are illegal they are breaking the law. If they are break the law then they are criminals. As such, they must be deported.

I live in a town in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Good luck finding a customer service job or a job with a government agency without being bilingual. I feel bad for parents who don't speak Spanish because the billboards listing news in front of the public schools are all in Spanish. I'd have a heck of a time teaching elementary school kids with all of the rules these days in one language, much less two, or sometimes three (large Russian immigrant population in this area).

Okay, hear from me. I live in a border state, my city has been over run with illegals. All the signage is in Spanish, the library in my city has 80% Spanish language books.
We are losing our emergency rooms due to every illegal in the county using them as doctors offices. They get free breakfasts and lunches at schools, they get low cost energy bills, they pay nothing for having their babies here, I could go on and on. I am happy for you, that you aren't being bothered. You need to walk a mile in my shoes pal.

I get your point, but not everyone does, most illegals come hero just to work and have a better life, of course there's some bad ones, but it's just the same with every other race, illegal or not. And to Julie, the government does not WANT to 'call the cops' when illegals 'break in to your country' so go complain to them, if you are so annoyed, do something about it!!!

not everyplace is like that. There are places in AZ that have experienced many problems due to coming over the border.
Higher crime, drugs, medical expenses, etc.
by and large my guess is most folks coming here are doing so to make some money and eke out a living. honest (except for being illegal aliends) and hard working
but man, they do need to learn how to speak english.
