depends on his age. If he is below a year, purina puppy is recommended, above a year still stick with purina. Above 6- purina senior.

The best food for ANY dog is one that has a meat or fish as the first ingredient. If you look and see that the first (or first few) ingredients are fillers like corn meal, any type of flour, any type of by-product (things not fit for human consumption), you should leave that food where you found it.

There are several high quality foods available. Wellness, Solid Gold, Innova, Evo, Natural Balance, and others depending on your geographic location. You will not find these foods at your local grocery or discount store. They cost a little more, but your dog will eat less because he/she will be getting more nutrition from less food. I buy one 17 pound bag about every 5 weeks for a 75 pound dog.

Breeder of Labs and I prefer Nutros Lamb and Rice, it also comes in a 'Large Breed' formula. Labs are notorious for being allergic to corn. Check the food you are feeding if it contains Corn and the dogs stool is green, there could be an allergic reaction. Iams is fine, but does contain alot of corn.

Check out
www.spoiled-rotten-pets.com
They have an area to rate the food you feed now and they have some of the best dogs foods available today for sale. SOme of them can be pruchased in your area others can be ordered off the web.
I recomend you feed the highest quality food you can afford becasue you will feed less of it and the mess from the dog will be less and the food will be better for the dog than the stuff available in the sotres.

it doesnt depend on the age but just get the right bag. I have a yellow labrador and she is on eukanuba and also has had iams. it is the best possible food cuz labs tend to go over weight and this will givethe right calories and if ur dog is over weight get the reduced diet it helps a ton and is the healthiest.

acutally, you can just give him a diff diet, that's proven to be better than some dog foods.
if he's less than 6 mo ,warm up 5piece plain chicken, and less than 10 each of carrots and broccoli or green beans, steamed.
6 mo-1 yr, 8 piece chicken 11 each carrots green beans and broccoli
over 1 yr 13-16 piece chicken with 13-15 piece green beans, 9 broccoli, 10 carrots.
7 yr+, 10 piece chicken 7 piece carrots, 7 broocoli and 7 green beans.
do this three x a day.breakfast 10 am, lunch 3 pm, dinner 8 pm.
or somewhere like that occording to your schedule
**NO FOOD AFTER 8PM!!**
this is proven to be better than some dog food diets. good luck with your lab!!!
any ques, feel free to email me at puppy_rok316@yahoo.com
GOOD LUCK!!!! :-)

There is some interesting information available on line that you should read before you select a commercial pet food.
Type "Polluted Pet Food" into your favorite search engine and read the article.
After that do a search on line for Holistic Pet Food.
As close to natural as you can get is the best diet for any dog.

Hi! I have a black lab and a chocholate lab and they both do very well on Nutro pet food. My black lab is 13 years old and has been on it for most of his life..and the other his whole life. They sell it at petco and petsmart. Good luck! Eva

My vet recommended Nutro (that's the brand name) large breed puppy food for my Lab/Shepherd. If it will be 50lbs. or more. This food is excellent. Try to look for foods without any animal by-products.
