It depends on what rating you choose in the navy. If you end up in Great Lakes for A school, you can bet that you'll have up to 3 roomies, there's a place that has computers for email that used to be called The Loft, that also has pool tables, video games, movie room, etc. You'll get weekends off, unless you have duty, and you'll have to stand watch in your barracks. In Great Lakes, you have to complete Personnel Qualification Standards (PQS) in order to get a better Liberty Class. When you first start A school, you can only wear your uniform off base, but when you finish more PQS, you are allowed to wear your civilian clothes. I'm not sure about the A schools in other bases.

You will most likely be in open barracks, but it depends on which "A" school you are attending. Longer ones tend to have better living quarters (at least they used to), but yes, you will have a few roommates at least. They should have a computer center for emailing, though I wouldn't count on one in your room! The way days off (and you don't get many) worked when I was in "A" school, you'd still have to muster and you have a curfew. You couldn't wear civilian clothing, even off duty until your 3rd or 4th week of "A" school.
My advice is to just concentrate on school. Please don't spend your time partying or worrying about dating, etc. Do good in "A" school and you'll get a better duty station and a chance at promotion sooner....you'll have plenty of time for the other stuff once you're at your duty station!

depends on where you end up and the command's policy. There will be stages.. at first you won't be able to leave base at all, even in your 'off duty' time. Then, you graduate to being able to leave base (in uniform) but having to be back on board before a certain time every night. Then you get to stay out overnight and weekends and in civvies, as long as your grades don't slip and you keep your nose clean.

Expect to have at least one roomate. You may or may not have internet access in your room(you provide the comp and pay for the ISP) but there will always be an internet cafe or library around, but the wait may be substantial to use one of the comps. you may be authorized use of a personal cell phone. maybe even a POV. But each command's rules are different, so what one A school allows, another may not.

When I went through "A" school in 1982, we lived in a dormatory style barracks with four enlisted guys to a room. At that time, computers were too expensive for everyone to have so we didn't have email. We had to put pen to paper. Now, I know they have the ability to send email and access the internet from ships at sea via satellite, so who knows. In "A" school, however, they may still have some restrictions on computer useage due to security reasons, etc. All you can do is deal with it when you get there. Good luck, sailor.

j.d. has answered very good about great lakes, and Sand diago is about the same, but if you go to a smaller base for A school like Midrian or Gulf Port MS, you could just have on romemate. And then some times before you get a room you are placed in a holding room and they can have 10 people in it, this is used when the graduiating class is waiting to head out and ready for you to start classes.
GOOD LUCK and "GO NAVY"
