If you were standing in the middle of an open field and you looked out at the horizon, you wouldn't be able to see further than a certain distance because of the curve of the earth. Theoretically speaking, if the earth was flat and we built a strong enough telescope, I should be able to see all the way to China from my house in North Carolina, but I can't. Also, they've seen it from space as a globe. Of course, some days I think the fact that we've sent stuff into space is a conspiracy, but that's another question.

Ummm... we've had astronauts take pictures of our planet from space. We also have satelites orbiting the planet that also take picutres from space.
