I don't know what state you live in, but there is a national civil rights group called "Fathers for Equal Rights", and they offer an array of free and/or low-cost legal services to non-custodial parents. Their website is: www.fathers4kids.com. Good luck!

You have to go before a judge and have the child legitimize . In most of our south eastern states if the parents are not married the mother is the the only one with any rights. By signing the birth certificate the father is given only one right to that child THE RIGHT TO PAY CHILD SUPPORT. The mother can deny you the right to legitimize the child then you would have to prove to the court that this would be in the childs best interest. If you pay child support most courts will see to it that your visitation rights are upheld. You can find out the laws of your state at your library. Good Luck & God Bless

He should first try and work the issues out with the mother. It's ultimately better for the child or children if they can put aside their own issues and come to an agreement themselves.

If that doesn't work, take it to court. Paternity will have to be established or acknowledged if it hasn't already, then visitation schedules can be worked out.

because unwed or not, supportive or not, they are considered " an equal parent" and have to be given the same rights. but if taken to court, they have to prove to be involved and that they are the paternal parent.
