I have a friend who has been having some blood that seems to be coming out of her nipple at times... ( i know this is gross and weird) but I am very concerned for her. Has anyone else ever heard of this or know what it may be??

Most bloody or watery nipple discharge is due to a benign condition such as papilloma or infection. A papilloma is a non-cancerous, wart-like tumor with a branching or stalk that has grown inside the breast duct. It could also just be fibrocystic changes. She should see her doctor to get evaluated.

Have your friend make an immediate appointment with her ob/gyn doctor; it isn't normal. Your friend is very fortunate to have such a concerned, crazybaby as a friend; your "crazy like a fox" (that's a compliment). Get her to see someone within the next two days, and have her tell them it's urgent. If possible, she wants to be able to rule out cancer asap

Check out these three websites (in addition to the traditional webmd.com; they'll provide a lot of information:

www.medhelp.org
www.uihealthcare.com
www.mayoclinic.com

God bless you both.

All women have milk ducts in there boobs whether they have children or not. Some times these ducts can get infected severly from being hit in the chest or other things if they get infected it can kill a woman faster then breast cancer. Your friend needs to get to a doctor and fast. milk duct infections can be treated but are very serious. if she is having blood come from her nipples then the infection is probably in her glands as well. hope this helps

You are most correct to be concerned

Blood from the nipple requires further evaluation. In many cases, it is necessary to remove a single duct which has a small growth (usually not malignant) in order to resolve the problem. You didn't mention the age of your friend, so generalizations are difficult.

General surgeons have a lot of training in the evaluation of breast disease (Medical and surgical), and some actually specialize only in breast disease. Many large cities have breast centers with many years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of breast problems.

Should definitely be evaluated by someone who knows what they are doing.

This is not normal. Maybe her boyfriend is a bit rough? Otherwise she should go to the doctor. It could be serious - cancer.
