Hello. My pastor has recently said something that I have been pondering for awhile. He said that we should pray to God and not let things bog us down, such as a family member with an illness or something, just give it to God and try to move on. I agree with this, however, people also say "Keep _(Some circumstance) in your prayers" Which I also agree with, but if he are supposed to pray about it and then move on, how are we supposed to KEEP something in our prayers like...pray about it more than once. I don't know. I am sorry for all the confusion!!

Good question.

Praying about something is not the same as worrying or pining about someone or something. Prayer allows you to submit to God's will and plan so that you can focus your concern within the framework of His best. When you pray, you are exercising faith. If you worry, you are heading in the opposite direction. If you are concerned, pray, but commit the person or subject into His hands. When we are in a trial or point of worry, and we choose to pray and commit the situation to God, it shows that you trust in Him, and when you trust in Him, He honors that. In fact, that is the BEST time to praise Him, because you are worshipping for who He is and not because everything is going swell.

I agree with your pastor. I also know of people who have made use of a "God Can". It's an old coffee can that has a slot in the top like a bank. When something you can't handle comes along, remember that "God can" and write it down on a paper, pray & put the paper in the can. When the can is full, empty the can without looking at what you prayed for. Sometimes, especially when it's a tough issue that you find worrisome, you may have to enter the same thing more than once - every time you think about it.

As far as "keep me in your prayers" I usually take that to mean the same thing. Every time that person crosses my mind I pray. Plus I have a list of people who are close to me (including family) I pray somewhat generically for God to grant them happiness and spiritual growth/blessings.

Hope that helps.

You're overthinking the situation. =) Your pastor means don't let situations (like an ill family member) take over your life worrying about it. Trust that while you have some responsibility in the situation, so too does the Father. By moving on I doubt that your pastor would mean for you to just let go of your problems and abandon them completely! That wouldn't be a very wise decision. Instead, keep praying to God about your problems so that you know someone else is there to help you through your troubles. Giving something to God does not mean letting Him do all the work -- it means that He is there to support you through everything, and to leave all the worrying to Him. If that makes any sense!

You pray for what ever is in your heart to pray for.

We should always start with the Lord's Prayer. then continue, with health and spiritual well being of each other.

you can always pray for things more than once if you feel the need too, but there are things that you can move on from.

For example, if today I am supposed to get an answer for something, i pray about it and move on.

However, if someone is ill, I pray and pray for everything connected to this person. the next day i will pray to God, thanking him because i know that he is keeping him well, or if things turn for the worse, thank the lord because he knows best. Just that we can't hold it against god for any outcomes, he is the one in charge.

But our prayers always touch God's heart.

Actually both ways to pray are right, but confusing as we've mentioned.

When you've said your prayers (usually at night before going to sleep) to remember the person who needs prayers and while you shouldn't "forget" out it, don't dwell on it - God will answer the prayers in God's own time (not by the time of our standards).

Have a lovely rest of the day.

Pray about the thing till you see the answer. It may be yes, no, or wait but you will get an answer. Then move on to another matter. Follow Jesus example and don't listen to everything people tell you even if it is a pastor. They can lead you wrong too as they are human.

When we are praying we are supposed to be talking to God. We need to pray about whats on our heart, like finances or sickness. Even though God already knows what we need we still need to pray. But too many times we try to do all the talking. Sometime we just to to ask God for help and just be quiet.

Jesus himself gave us an excellent example of how to pray, in which you leave nothing out. You can find it in Mathew 6 9-15, also in Luke 11 1-13, also in Mark 11 20-26

You pray with all your heart and believe and leave the rest to God, he will soon take it to work it out, but don't expect it to be answered right away. God is patient with his work and does it at a timely manner. You can also ask other believers to pray for you, you do not need to go into details just ask them to pray for you, a true believe or a person of God will not ask anymore. If they do, just say " will you pray for me please". God will also guide you to someone.

You can pray to God about something more than once but what I think what your pastor is trying to say is that You shouldn't let the problem become the biggest thing in your life. its like the saying "Let go and let God" give hime the problem but its ok to pray about it more than once.
