I got this kitten about a month ago and he is about three months old. I got him declawed on monday, and brought him home yesterday. Every since he's been home he cries and meows whenever I leave him.. Say, if I'm running to the store or something he'll sit at the door and cry.. I was taking a shower today and he stood outside the door meowing, i could hear him over the water.
Is this just because he's not feeling 100% after getting declawed? Or what can I do??

I know declawing is bad, but I had to. I still live at home and my dad said he had to get declawed (because he likes the furniture).. Or he had to go. I didn't want him to go.

Ooh this is so sad. I feel like giving your little kitty a big hug.

Was your kitten meowing before he was declawed? If so he may be lonely for his brothers and sisters. If not, he may be in some mild pain. I would first check with his vet to see if that is possible, if not, take a blanket and put a ticking clock under it and place it next to where the kitten sleeps. It has a soothing reaction to them. Just like a baby that is colicky you just need to take a few minutes of the day and comfort them. Yes, I agree that is sad that you had to declaw your kitten but as long as it is going to be a inside cat it should be all right. I am sure people say the same thing about how bad it is to get a animal fixed! They don't understand your situation. Good luck.

I would say that he is just recovering from his declawing experience. It hasn't been that long, and especially if they kept him over night. He could be experiencing some pain - declawing is very painful, so call the vet and ask for something to help with that if they didn't give you anything. As for the declawing, I don't agree with it, but it's better that he have a safe and loving home. Just be sure that the little guy doesn't get outside.

He's probably feeling lonely but I think the most important part is that there are many alternatives to declawing (not that you can go back on that decision now) but check with the doctor, they may have not removed his entire claw, that happens more than you might think. I'm sorry, but declawing is one of the most f**ked up things you can do to a cat. Search declawing on the net and you'll see what I mean. If someone chopped off your nails you'd probably be upset to.... This is what declawing does sorry to say.

Poor kitten! He's got separation anxiety. I have a 2 month old kitten too and he's the same way. He's been sleeping with me since I gave his 2 sisters away so I'm giving him ALL the attention now even though his mom is still around. Buy him some toys to draw his attention from you. If this is his first home then he'll get used to it. When he gets older he'll pay you no attention to you. ;D DON'T EVER LET HIM GO OUTSIDE NOW THAT YOU'VE DECLAWED HIM otherwise he won't be able to defend himself.

He is a kitten...they will cry quite a bit until he grows older. Declawed???? Poor thing...I really REALLY hope you didn't declaw all four!!! Talk about torturing a living thing. Imagine when you have an itch and you have no way to scratch it. I seriously hope you at least left 2 feet with claws. This is also protection for them. I would be crying too.
He is your child now...be sure to keep him and love him.

FOR JUSTIN_B Hope your mom and dad threw your a*s out when you were a baby and crying...now that's a funny thought. You were probably a lot uglier than this adorable kitten...may cats all over the world scratch your eyes out! (Unless they're declawed of course:)

He's not feeling well and probably lonely. When kittens in a litter aren't feeling well, they curl up against one another. You just let some stranger cut the tips of his fingers off THEN have the audacity to leave it all by it's lonesome. I'd be crying, too.

Try to comfort him as much as possible. His paws will feel better after awhile, but you may consider getting another kitten to keep him company. Next time you get a kitten, try training it to use a scratching post before opting for de-clawing.

Get a second kitten or just wait for him to get used to being alone, OR have someone you trust get a key and come visit when you're not there. Many kids and older people would enjoy doing the job:-)

okay well my kitten does the same exact thing. You should just maybe get a friend for your kitten. A dog, another cat or whatever so he does not feel like he will get hurt

Just leave it alone. I have 2 cats, and the first one we had cried every time we left, or if everybody's doing something they'll go to someone's room and cry. They'll get over it after a while. If you cuddle and love them every time they cry, they'll expect you to do it EVERY time. Good luck!

It sounds to me that your cat is in pain and not comfortable in his new setting. Don't worry though, your kitten will get used to the new place and his pain will go away in a couple of days.
