A dead pixel is just a pixel that doesn't work. It will appear as a little black dot on the screen. A stuck pixel is a pixel that shows one color at all times. Sometimes they can be fixed by using a pixel fixer video, which you may be able to buy at Best Buy or other stores like that. They work by flashing colors on the screen, which somehow unjams the pixel.
To see if you have one, display a flat color on the screen; white to find dead pixels, black to find stuck pixels. You should be able to see them if you look hard enough.
I forgot to give you the link to the video, but here it is http://www.psp-vault.com/modules.php?name=UpDownload&req=getit&lid=355

The picture on LCDs is made up of little tiny squares that change color according to the video inputs to the unit. These squares are called pixels. If one of the pixels in the unit seems to be stuck on a certain color -- usually black -- then it's called a "dead pixel". You can tell if you have one by running various test images through the unit and observing the screen. If you send an all-white image and still see black specks, for instance, those are probably dead pixels.
Even if you have one or two, it probably won't affect your enjoyment of the TV. A large number of them would be bad, though.
As far as I know, there's no practical way to repair them either, so if you have a bunch you'll have to decide whether to live with it or replace the unit.

Pixels make up your computers display. Each monitors has millions of them (your resolution determines how many per square inch). If one burns out then you'd see a litle black dot where the pixel should be giving a display. Most likely the whole monitor will go down instead of a single pixel.

Usually its a pixel(very small speck) that is "dead", it will apear black, while all other pixels remain the same... This only ocurs on LCD's. Usually the rule is: 7 Dead pixels or more is valid for a return.

A dead pixel is simply a spot on your computer screen (either white, green or red) that doesnt allow the color of the image to be displayed correctly... its hard to explain actually. Its just a spot on the screen!

Defective pixels come in three flavors:
Non-illuminating > Stays dark
Non-extinguishing > Stays lit
Flickering > figure it out for yourself lol
Doesn't matter if it's Plasma, LCD, or DLP... it can not be fixed, just replaced. If you have one, you can see it. If you can't see it, you don't have one.
