What about you. Aren't you spending time with your puppy? Aren't you spending time house training and obedience training her? Aren't you playing with her, teaching her tricks and taking her for walks?

We have a new puppy also that we got so our big dog wouldnt get lonely. But since the older dog is older he's not always in the playing mood. My puppy has a stuffed bunny that we gave him. I wouldnt think you would need to give him any certain type of stuffed animal just as long as it's soft and not easily destroyed or have things that he could pull off and choke on. Our pup likes to grab the toy in his mouth and swing it around and he chews on it, he has lots of fun with it. And it keeps the big dog from snapping at him cause he's at the age where he wants to play and that usually means biting on the big dogs ears.

I have three dogs now, all under 10lbs and they are great! I got the second when my first was fully trained (he was a year when I got my second dog) and it has been the best decision I have made this year! they take care of eachother, and even sleep together, but are still bonded to me.
I think you should spend more time playing with your dog, OR bringing her to a good dog run where it can socialize more with other dogs, OR get another puppy.

A dog should only be left home alone for so many hours...the rule of thumb is: for however many months old the dog is, that's how many hours it should be left home alone. For example: 3 months, 3 hours alone; 5 months old, 5 hours alone.
If you are exceeding this the dog is not getting enough attention and socialization. Hire a dog walker to come in during the middle of the day. They are inexpensive and do wonders for your dog.

I think the only good answer is that the puppy needs more of you. You're options a pretty limited, and all animals take hard work. Even cats.
Good luck!

You - She just needs quality playtime with you as often as you can afford it - Good socialization times at the park or perhaps a dog park where there are other animals to play with will go a long way to put off her boredom and loneliness.

There are some types of birds that if raised together with a puppy become life long companions. You might try a small parrot or even a parakeet.

keraboo is right. Get all the shots and let her have puppy pals It's a blast to watch them. My three dogs play together and it's hilarious. We have tile floors and they chase around with no traction or they pretend their going to eat each other alive. They keep wagging and anyone can see its all fake.

Sometimes getting another dog really doesn't create more "work" for you because they spend alot of time entertaining each other. There will be more expense for food, shots, etc., but you might be pleased with the results, in the long run.

if you really can't get another dog (but you should if you can manage it) then i would take your dog to the dog park so he/she can hang out with other dogs. maybe take it once or twice a week and let him run around for an hour or two. or if you know someone with a dog, have them come over and hang out with you and bring their dog so that you two can hang out and the dogs can play together while they're there.

I found that when my dog was little, i couldn't take on the added expense of another dog so i got him a stuffed animal and sewed an alarm clock into it. The ticking noise reminds it of its family.
