There are 129,000 children available for adoption in the USA. Most will be released into society by an overwhelmed foster care system without ever having known the love of any parent at all. The Christian right wing doesn't want gays to adopt for religious reasons. There are 5 Million people in the USA who identify as Right Wing Religious people. They are not adopting these kids. Somebody has to help these kids. Florida doesn't allow gays to adopt, even if they are drug free with clean criminal records and have the means to care for these kids. Who is right and why?

There is no evidence to suggest that being raised by gay parents "affects" a child; not mentally, not physically, and not sexually. There is no good reason to keep two loving, stable parents from raising a child, especially when life in the foster system is pretty much GUARANTEED to screw a kid up (I'd take my chances with a gay couple anyday!). And, it is a fact that homosexual couples tend to be more stable and earn more money, thus being able to take better care of the kid than some Catholic family with six kids.

And I completely agree with King when he said that there is too much emphasis on who can adopt and not nearly enough on who can breed.

Even if you allow that the best way to riase children is with a mother and father, that doesn't happen even with birth parents. I'd rather see a child raised in a 2 mother home or 2 father home, than in foster care (where it's temporary) or an orphanage (where there is no bonding at all). Yeah they should be allowed to adopt. Gays don't live in a vacuum, they have extended families like all of us, and a considerably better record at staying together.
Nor should they be confused with pedophiles who chase little children, and they're certainly not looking to 'recruit' people into a gay lifestyle. Face it, they go through enough problems to wish it on their kids.

I have mixed feelings about this. I would normally say no. I feel the child should have a male and a female role. However, I was watching a show about two gays. They had foster kids that no one else seem to want. They had health problems or had behavior problems. The way they changed those kids lives was wonderful. Had it not been for them who knows what would have happened to them. I saw a show on babies born with aids. They had been given up by their parents. They were in a home. The doctor said they died from lack of love and touch. Not from the aids. So I guess having someone to take you and give you love is better than being left behind. I just hope they are taught they don't have to be gay or lesbian. That's my only concern.

Yes. I know of a little girl that was born on drugs, the mother was on drugs and a private club dancer the father in jail. The little girl got turned over to foster parents from birth. They have had her ever since, she is now 5 years old and is going to a great school and has an awesome attitude about life. The mom is out of town still running from social services because the 4th child from a 4th father was born on drugs as well. This child would of grown up with men abusing her or child molesting her in her mom's home.

In my opinion, no. But, I also do not think that single people should be able to adopt. A child needs both a mother(female) and a father(male) in a committed relationship. I am not saying that gays can't be committed to each other, but being raised by two fathers or two mothers will give the child a skewed view of what makes a family. It take a man and a woman to make a baby, a man and a woman should raise the baby.

Gays and lesbians should have every right that a straight couple has. Why should religion or sexual orientation have a bearing on civil rights? Lesbian couples are allowed to go through invitro fertilization to have a baby, why shouldn't they be allowed to adopt. I think it's idiotic that just because someone enjoys the company of the same sex better than the opposite sex, that they are branded and not allowed to be "normal"

First of all, I am a right wing conservative republican. Ok, now check this out, anyone who is competent should be allowed to care for children. However, people who can't pass a simple drivers test to get a license can go out and produce 18 kids, overpopulating our planet, no test required. I think there is too much emphasis on who can adopt and not enough on who can breed.

God bless anyone (who is competent) that wants to help out and adopt a needy child!

My personal opinion, if you have the finances and means of taking care of a child, then by all means adopt! It shouldn't matter what your lifestyle is, whether your gay and/or a lesbian. Just as long as the child is gonna be well taken care of and loved, then it shouldn't matter about the lifestyle of the parents. Gays and lesbians have just as much rights to raise a child as a straight person does!!

I know a girl who was adopted by her two mothers, and she is more stable than most of her classmates.
I think people get all caught up in the "gay" thing that they don't just see people who want to show a loveless child love.
Equality for all, not just some.

I'm a chirsitan and although I don't promote same sex relations I don't see why a gay couple can not adopt a child. Most gay familes are very loving people. I have many friends who are gay and even though I might not 100% agree with thier lifestyle choice,, they are great people and I know would love a child..
