Why the heck are you borrowing money from your boss? If you can't afford to go on vacation, don't go! Such interpersonal things have no place in the employer-employee relationship. Borrow from your co-worker if you have to.

Are you asking for an advance on your next paycheck? That's different, though also questionable to pay for a vacation. At least your boss has some security that she/he will be paid back.

Ask for a big raise, and when he says no, then just say "well at least can you advance me a few bucks on my next paycheck so that I can get through this vacation"
