sounds like you've hit a plateau already... this sucks but there are things you can do! the key is to "surprise" your body by trying a new activity.... other than running what exercise do you do??? if you do weights... try yoga or pilates... if you always run... trying swimming laps in a pool. your body will react to the change of activity with a "jumpstart" in you metabolism.
don't forget that we are all genetically programmed to carry weight differently so you may always have some love handles, however, giving your body this little jumpstart every few months will maximize your workouts and you'll look great in no time!

Congratulation with your 12lbs so far, I know it is really hard work, Add in some sit-ups but with a twist. So when your doing your sit ups bring your left elbow to the outside of your right knee. This twist will help wipe those love handles into shape. But don't sit down and do sit-ups until your blue in the face, Do them in sets of 3, like start off with doing 10 and reset for about a min or until your ready then do your next set. And as your stomach muscles get stronger add more rep's to your sets 15 x 3, then 20 x 3 and so on. If you spend about 5 min everyday doing this your love handles will start to disappear.

Forget about spot reducing a certain body part. It doesn’t work. A body part is too big because that is part of your body where you tend to store excess body fat. Resistance exercising will not decrease fat in an area … it will only build the muscle that sits under the fat. It is totally impossible to change fat into muscle. They are two separate tissues.
If you want to make a body part smaller then you have to decrease the amount of body fat stored at that area. To decrease body fat you need to do two things. One: change your diet; eating a healthier diet so that the amount of calories you take in each day is less than the amount of calories you burn each day during activities. And two: increase the amount of calories you are burning each day by increasing your cardiovascular exercise. Also, doing weight training exercises will help you build some muscle mass, which will help increase your resting metabolic rate, so you will burn more calories on a daily basis.
Love handles are tough to get rid of. With bodyfat the rule is first on, last off ... meaning the first place your body stores fat is the last place it will take it off. What you need to do is boast your metabolism. You can do this by eating more frequent meals and also by adding weight training to your exercise regime. Good luck!

A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER:
The correct way to burn fat and stay healthy is to burn more calories than you consume
You need to make sure you are eating healthy foods while still excercising
If you have a big appetite drink plenty of water so that you will feel full but not consume calories
But you should always eat
If you start to skip meals you will only be more hungry at your next meal and probably eat way too much
Remember, the average persons stomach is as big as a slice of pizza scrunched up into a ball
So you shouldnt be putting more food into your stomach than what fits
Also, it takes aproximately 15-20 minutes for your brain to realize that you are full
so eat slower and you will realize sooner when you are not hungry anymore

I use 25 lb hand weights. Hold them down by your sides, as you hold them bend slightly at the waist to your side. Maybe at knee level. Steady motion. Do each side. 3 reps of 25. Helped me alot.
