Mayonaise will get rid of lice. Apply it liberally and work it down into the roots. Wrap a piece of plastic around the head (not a plastic bag as this could be a danger to a child) and leave it on for an hour. It will kill all of the live lice but the eggs will hatch out two or three days later so it is necessary to repeat the process in order to kill the newly hatched lice. Much better than chemicals. Completely non-toxic. Can be done as often as necessary to keep the child free of lice without danger. There are also several herbs that repel pests. I like chamomile the best. Buy it bulk and brew it up strong. I put a handful in about 3 cups of water and simmer it for 15 or 20 minutes, covered. Cool and apply. Doesn't smell bad and is very healing. Should help keep the lice away to start with. Also a great mosquito repellant.

Buy a nit comb made of metal, not plastic and coat the head in mayonnaise. Leave the mayo on for at least two hours and wrap the head in plastic wrap. Yes I know, there will be many jokes... But I did this for my daughter when she came home from school with lice... and it worked. I know what you are going through. My house is clean and we are very clean people but she still came home with them. Besides the mayo for her head, here are some things I did:

1. put all her toys and pillows in garbage bags, tie off the ends and leave outside for two or more days. (lice cannot survive off the human head for more than 48 hours)
2. wash all bedding and clothes in HOT water and high heat dry
3. I do recommend a chemical lice spray for all mattresses and carpet. You can buy it at WalMart as just the can of bedding spray, not the whole kit.
4. After my daughter got them the second time, I did the mayo and then we dyed her hair. Any surviving lice are killed by the hair dye and it also helps condition her hair.

Lice are actually attracted to a clean scalp, so don't feel like you are doing a bad job as a mom. Remind her about how important it is NOT to share hats, coats, headbands or ANYTHING of that nature. She has to be getting them from somewhere.... have the school do a lice check for her grade or any class she might come into close contact with. Some poor kid may be infested and their parents not even know it....

Once you do get rid of them, be prepared for paranoia. It has been six months for us lice fee and I still comb through my daughters hair once a week to make sure... (and occasionally freak out because I think I see one!) Good Luck....

If you are just seeing nits, but no live lice, then you may be able to simply wash your hair with a regular shampoo and then try to remove the nits using a nit comb.

Keep in mind that live lice can sometimes be hard to find, so if you continue to find new nits, then you do likely have an active lice infestation and does need further treatment.
If the 'white stuff' is simply dandruff and is on your scalp and not on the hair shafts, then you may not have head lice at all. Instead of lice treatments, you might try an medicated shampoo, like Selsun or Neutrogena T-gel, although a visit to your Doctor would be a good idea in this case.

wash the hair often. a lot of vigorous washing. use a fine comb to keep combing the hair. they may not go away right away because the eggs have a very hard protective shell and can withstand anything. u just need to do the above often so that when the new eggs hatch, they will eventually get washed and combed out. lice dont survive in carpets because they need blood, but if it makes u feel better, change the carpet to linoleum. being a clean and good mother doesnt have anyting to do with the lice. she could have gotten them from someone in her school or playground.

First of all, im sorry you are having difficulty with this issue, but rest assured you are NOT a bad mother AT ALL...Lice are actually attracted to CLEAN heads, not a scent....First, you CAN try olive oil, because it will suffocate them..it is fine, i figure if people use mayo in thier hair to condition it, and olive oil to sooth the perinium when a baby is being born, it couldnt hurt to use it on hair....as for the carpet, I would go to a hardware store and ask them what you can use to bomb the carpets....they shoud be able to point you in a good direction as far as that...they have heard everything...good luck...

If you were a bad mom you wouldnt be here trying to get some kind of help. Its not her smell causeing them. She has the hair they like, easy to grab on to.Did you cut her hair? If you didnt after a treatment keep her hair up and everyday put hair spray on her head for about 2 weeks.People with the cleanest houses can have lice.Who is she hanging with it may be them or there homes, school so on with the problem.Try mayo and leave on for 1/2 hr get a lice comb and make sure to pull everyone off and make sure they are being samurged in soap water. All these treamnts are not good for her and lice become very use to the treaments and wont get rid of them.If she has any stuffed animals put them in garbege bages for about a month, buy new pillowes, use hot water to her blankets and sheets, spray lice spray on her bed and let it soak.If its in the furniture spray with lice spray also the rugs.It takes alot of cleaning to get rid of them.vacume the rugs everyday. If you do use mayo, this does not kill them just they go into hybernation for a few hrs, make sure to keep up with it every other day .good luck,
from a mom who has went threw the same dam thing

Well about the Olive oil, no, it contains acid that you wouldn't want, however plain vegetable oil will work, the live like to crawl in very smooth hair, so oil it up leave it on for about 20 minutes under a shower cap to create humidity, and then wash with dandruff shampoo and it should get rid of the lice.

There are several things on the internet that you could try...Denorex extra strength is supposed to make them feel gross (or kill them?), anyway, I've heard it works...my cousin's child came home with lice and she is really against chemicals, so she used mayo, wrapped her head with plastic wrap, heated it with a dryer (for 30 min or so), rinsed out the mayo and used one of those tiny lice combs to get any dead ones. That's all I've got--I'm sure there are more, type "lice home remedy" into google or ask.com and see what comes up!

yeah. shave till you're bold so it'd be easier to find them and remove them... it's both a joke and a non-joke.

But lemme tell ya a story... my grandma had once went to a school where all girls had extemely short hair cause of this. She had long hair then... and they wanted to cut it down cause of this lice issue. However, after her hair was checked completely she got accepted because she didn't have lice. So some people did or still do do it brutally like that so chemicals won't be used. Know what--talk to your doctor.

A few lice is still lice. I think you still have to go with the chemical spray/treatment to get rid of them. I had tried other products when my daughter and I "caught lice" at school - but - I finally had to go with the regular spray treatment.
