Classmates.com is $29 per year. We used it for our class's 40th reunion. I joined, paid the $29 and sent e-mail to everyone in our class. 1/3 of the e-mails bounced. Another 1/3 didn't respond.
Two things you can do for free - almost.
1) Call your school, see if there is a reunion committee for your class. If there is, get the leader's name and e-mail. Write. Our leader doesn't give out addresses, but he forwards messages. This preserves privacy.
2) If the people you are looking for have rare names, you can Google them. I found a dozen or maor e, out of 100 or so, that way. Use as many forms of the name as seem reasonable, and use quotation marks:
"Abraham Lincoln"
"Abe Lincoln"
"Lincoln, Abraham"
"Lincoln, Abe"
If your old pal was a jogger, lived in Idaho and would now be 33 years old and you see his name listed in the men's 30 - 35 year bracket for a charity run in Pocatello, you can write to the organizers.

(Won't work for cell phones, women if you don't know their married names, or people whose phones are in someone else's name, like their parents or room-mate.)

What IIIII have done, and you can do, is go to Telephone records, and type the name and state in. You can also go to Yahoo Search, or Google Search, type the name and the STATE you think they in, into the search spot, and TYPICALLY, if they HAD a phone in the last YEAR or so, through ma Bell, it'll pop up!

On classmate.com or reunion.com you can search for your high school class. To sign up is free but to get info or leave message you must pay for a member ship. When you sign up for free, you can see a list of the other classmates who signed up so far. But you will not be able to access anything but names unless you pay.

Oh, try classmates.com
Sometimes, the people you want to find aren't signed up. Also try Yahoo! People Search and Google.
