My children are 2 and 7, so adding another child to take care of isn't going to be cake, but the only really bad thing is the baby has bad reflux so i'm constantly going to be cleaning him and myself up.

It depends on where you live... where I do, in California, daycare for an infant is $200 per week...some places up to $250.

It depends on how long you are watching the child. If it's typical day care hours, say 8-6 M-F, you can charge around 150-175 a week. That's about what a day care would charge, but the baby will get better attention being at home with you.

I always look at the financial ability for the parents to pay. If they are dirt poor, and you can cut them a deal, its always a good idea to help new parents get started.
If they are both gainfully employed and well off, I would charge them around $3 an hour and double time anything past 5 or 6 pm. Make sure you have them sign a contract for services because if you don't and they don't pay you, you are just out the money. Also, be very specific in the contract.

Is this full-time or occasional? Days or evenings? It depends a lot on the area you live.

I live in a large city with a reasonable standard of living, and I paid $30/day to a mom with one other child. That would be a steal in a large metro area like Washington or New York, but it might be a little high for a really small town.

Depending on your area I would say between $125-150 until the child is at least a year.

For the situation, I would try and ask for $10 an hour. That's a lot you have to put up with.
