Do they do they go to war like the army or do they just help out when something happens to the country? Could you also give me the website for the national guard?

The National Guard is what used to be the old States Militia (i.e., the 22nd Maine Regiment, the 16th Pennsylvania, the 15th Indiana, yada, yada, yada) during the Civil War. Up until the Civil War, a large, Federal, full time Army was something that was feared. So, when the nation needed troops, the States Militia (now referred to as the National Guard) were drafted into the Army and they went forth to fight the war.
After the Civil War, as the United States became more and more involved in world affairs, the need for a full time, professional Army and Navy was realized. So, the Federal government increased the size of it's Army and Navy and didn't rely as heavily on the National Guard as they had in the past. However, the States retained their individual rights to maintain their own militias as the "California National Guard" or the "Indiana National Guard", etc., etc. etc.
Also, after the Civil War, in 1878, the "Posse Comitatus Act" was passed by Congress which made it illegal for the federal or state governments ti use the FEDERAL Army to enforce civilian law. President Clinton attempted to have the act repealed during his presidency, but Congress dissented and the act still stands. This means that the governor of each respective state can only utilize the National Guard in that State to enforce civil law. The Federal Army can be used ONLY where constitutional and specifically authorized by the Congress.

the national guard does the same thing the regular army does, but it's not full time, it only goes in for drill one weekend a month and has annual training for two weeks a year. i think you did a google search you could get their website, as i am in the regular army, and don't know the guards website off hand. they do take care of things stateside, like the whole hurricane katrina thing and of course working the us/mexico border with the border patrol. i recommend regular army if you are going to join up, the benefits are better and you don't get deployed one week after you find out about it like the guard does. they do a lot of last minute type things, where the regular forces have things planned out, and are not trying to catch up with new orders.

The Air National Guard, at least, allows presidents like Bush Jr. go AWOL for over 6 mos. then giving him an Honorable Discharge anyway!

We are Soldiers. We have a dual local and federal role.

For some reason, i somewhat beloved Casey Mears' cameo scheme. The yellow "nationwide look after" somewhat pops out at you, and it really is a clean, user-friendly layout. next in line is Dale Jr.'s "Citizen Soldier" scheme. It actually blends in with the music.
