--My man, I am an unpublished writer but am working on my fourth book. Might I suggest you kill any distractions around you. I play music when I write, but nothing that inspires sing along. I wait until my significant other and Daughter are in bed, because they distract. Phone? Off the hook. If I am getting frustated, I step outside and force myself to think about what I am writing, where I am at and where am I going with it. Is it going where it is suppossed to go? If not I can concentrate on cutting down on the stuff that is not quite as relevant and streamline the story. Remember, your outline is the roadmap, follow the directions. Good luck!

i have the same problem, it is really bad with names, even faces for me, i forget people that i hang out with, my clients names and faces, girls that i have dated, sometimes i even forget events or parties that i attend. i have found it is usally the things or people that i don't care about that i forget, the things and people that i love i never forget a thing, not even small details
i guess it is my brain saying why waste memory on this

You have to practice memorizing things..word association helps me.
But I also can't type or write as fast as my ideas for a story come out, so what I recommend is to get a voice recorder. It allows my to keep my thoughts flowing as the ideas spill out, and I can play it over and over again until it is all on printed form.
also search online for increasing your memorization skills...if you remember to do it ;)

You may consider using Ginko Biloba extract. I used it all the way thru college and my memory was very keen. It practically gave a 100% retention rate. It will make your thinking very exact. I almost insisted that my employees take however my lawyer told me I could'nt. Try it ,it is very powerful.

you have to concentrate more on what people are telling you. I think you are continously daydreaming! Stop that, and focus on what are you are doing. and leave the dreams for when you are alone and have nothing to do. it was my problem when i was attending school.

Try improving your diet. You need good nutrition for your brain to function properly.

As well as the usual such as eating more fruit and veg, you could try taking nutritional supplements containing EPA and DHA. For example: http://www.water4.net/
