You have a child with special needs. Where would you like to see your child placed in the school? What would you say if you were the teacher

Personally, I would like to see my child mainstreamed as much as possible, but I think that some of the classes should maybe cater to their special need. (I am assuming you meant developmentally disabled as the "special need")

I work with people with developmental and physical disabilities, and some of them are quick as a whip! A couple of the ladies I work with went through school normally, except for a few classes that were catered to them. They are both very proud of their high school diploma, and don't really know any different about their classes being different from others.

It would depend upon the degree of need they would have as well. Obviously a severly MR child should not be mainstreamed into classes - they will suffer both socially and intellectually. I think one has to look at what is best for the child.

I would want my child placed where he/she could best learn based on his/her learning capabilities.. If he's not advanced, then keep him out of those classes. If he/she is advanced, then find the bump him/her up to where they need to be..
If I were I teachere, I'd be honest with the parents and the school system. It is part of your duty.. school system is failing in america because of denial by parents and lack of trust from teachers because they know parents always get their way..Someones gotta set em' straight. Be honest

As far ahead as they can. They should be placed like a normal kid. If they are ready for the next grade, they should enter it. It is always good to take the challenge if you are on the border.
