I'm not 100% sure what you mean by index, but I keep a running list of my books/cds/dvds through excel on my computer and then include information like if I got them used, condition, etc. I do it for insurance purposes (mainly for the books since that's part of my job) but it would work just for about any reason.

If you're wanting to index the tracks on each CD or DVD ,
construct a spread sheet on EXCEL. The columns will allow you to enter codes of your choice, letters or numbers,, text, to indicate each one, genre, etc. Even your favorite if you like. You could use numbers, 0-9 in first col. for each CD/DVD or the title itself. Second col. 0-9 indicates genre. Third col. 0-9 indicating another preference. Thus:
..Col A DVD.......Col B Genre.....Col C Favorite... etc
title or 0 ......................2...........................4
title 1-9.......................4...........................2
Or you could just use text, as long as each categorie is spelled the same for sorting. You could even have a col for artist.
Then these can be sorted in any order of preference.
You would have constructed a data base that can be queried and searched on any col. using the the coding in use. EXCEL has instructions to do this.
Hope this is your question, and this helps.
